Low carbon technology for carbon neutrality in sustainable cities: A survey

Wen -Long Shang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role and current situation of Low-Carbon Technology (LCT) in achieving urban Carbon Neutrality goals and Sustainable Urban Development (SUD). It focuses on three aspects: new energy-supported LCTs, building-oriented Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction (ECER), and Carbon Capture, Storage, and Utilization (CCSU) technology. A review of the past ten years' research is conducted, selecting over 20,000 articles and analyzing more than 150 papers with high citation rates and novel research results. Case studies are also conducted to explore urban green development and building energy conservation solutions. Suggestions are provided for achieving SUD. The importance of controlling emissions from building energy consumption is emphasized, as it is a significant carbon emitter.

Fitting Empirical Fundamental Diagrams of Road Traffic: A Comprehensive Review and Comparison of Models Using an Extensive Data Set

Daniel M. Bramich et al.

Summary: Understanding the relationship between traffic flow, density, and speed is crucial for traffic modelling and management. This study compares 50 models to determine the best model for empirical fundamental diagrams and finds that the non-parametric Sun model outperforms all others. Future research should focus on exploring more sophisticated noise models to enhance the understanding of empirical fundamental diagrams.

Data fusion for estimating Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram in large-scale urban networks

Elham Saffari et al.

Summary: This study aims to estimate the MFD for a large-scale urban network by combining probe vehicle data with an unknown penetration rate and full-scale approximate traffic data based on loop detector data. The Bayesian fusion method outperforms the baseline method in average flow and density estimations, especially showing significant improvement in average density estimations.

Energy transition toward carbon-neutrality in China: Pathways, implications and uncertainties

Yong Yang et al.

Summary: This study presents a scenario-based assessment using the LEAP model to identify the possible transition pathways of China's energy system toward carbon neutrality. The results show that China could peak CO2 emissions before 2030, but achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 requires a reduction of 7.8 Gt CO2. The study also suggests that the energy transition may decrease the energy return on investment, but continuing preferential policies for renewables and developing CCS deployment can help mitigate emissions.

Examining influence factors of Chinese electric vehicle market demand based on online reviews under moderating effect of subsidy policy

Zaoli Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the public's perception of electric vehicle attributes and their impact on sales in China using online review sentiment analysis. The results showed that the public's perception of attributes such as comfort, manipulation, space, and cost performance significantly influenced electric vehicle sales. Government subsidy policies were found to moderate the relationship between public perception and sales.

Balancing the GHG emissions and operational costs for a mixed fleet of electric buses and diesel buses

Shuai Shao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the balance of deploying a mixed fleet of diesel buses and electric buses in order to reduce GHG emissions and operational costs. The study finds that in a real-world bus system in Liuzhou City, China, electric buses are preferred for bus lines in the downtown area during peak hours, while diesel buses are allocated to bus lines in the suburbs during off-peak hours. The analysis shows that replacing all diesel buses with electric buses can lead to a reduction in carbon emissions of up to 77.04%.

Huibo Bi et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a bi-level optimization algorithm based on queueing and neural network models to calculate the time and energy efficient actions and routes for different types of road users within an urban road network in real time, and encourages road users to follow optimal actions through an incentive mechanism. The case study in a designated area of Beijing shows that the use of this algorithm can significantly reduce average travel time and energy consumption compared to realistic trip data.
