Reassessment of theropod material from Pichasca, Northern Chile: Presence of Abelisauridae (Theropoda: Ceratosauria) from the Quebrada La Totora Beds (Albian- Turonian)

Jared Amudeo-Plaza et al.

Summary: In this study, a theropod tooth collected from Cretaceous beds in Northern Chile is comprehensively re-studied through morphological and morphometrical analysis. The tooth exhibits morphological traits consistent with abelisaurids affinities, thus referred to as Abelisauridae indet. The geological provenance of the specimen is assigned to the Quebrada La Totora Beds, representing the first record of Abelisauridae in Chile and in the southwestern margin of South America. The presence of abelisaurids in this region has significant implications for understanding the biogeography of the group during the Late Cretaceous.

Theropods from the La Bonita site, Bajo de la Carpa Formation (Neuqu?en Group, Santonian), Rio Negro, Argentina: analysis of dental evidence

J. G. Meso et al.

Summary: This study reports the dental fossils of dinosaurs from La Bonita area in Argentina, and confidently assigns their taxonomic positions using cladistic analysis and measurement data analysis. The presence of Megaraptoridae and Abelisauridae is identified in the Bajo de La Carpa Formation for the first time, providing evidence for the association between these two groups.

New theropod dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of Brazil improves abelisaurid diversity

Fabiano Vidoi Iori et al.

Summary: A new abelisaurid theropod dinosaur, Kurupi itaata gen. et sp. nov., was described from the Late Cretaceous Marilia Formation in Brazil. This new species has unique anatomical features, such as fused ischia and caudal vertebrae with specific shapes. The discovery contributes to our understanding of the Maastrichtian continental fauna of Brazil and increases the diversity of medium-sized abelisaurids in western Gondwana.

First definitive abelisaurid theropod from the Late Cretaceous of Northwestern Argentina

Federico L. Agnolin et al.

Summary: The study reports a nearly complete abelisaurid braincase from Northwestern Argentina, which exhibits both plesiomorphic features and unique characteristics, supporting its status as a new taxon. This finding represents the first unequivocal occurrence of an abelisaurid in the region and provides new evidence on the geographic distribution of the clade during Late Cretaceous times in South America.

Arackar licanantay gen. et sp. nov. a new lithostrotian (Dinosauria, Sauropoda) from the Upper Cretaceous of the Atacama Region, northern Chile

David Rubilar-Rogers et al.

Summary: A new lithostrotian sauropod, Arackar licanantay gen. et sp. nov., has been discovered in the Upper Cretaceous beds of the Hornitos Formation in Atacama Region, northern Chile. This new titanosaur exhibits unique characteristics and is phylogenetically classified in a clade with Rapetosaurus and Isisaurus. It is the third dinosaur named from Chile and the third titanosaur from the western side of the Andes in South America.

Summary: The study describes theropod shed teeth associated with a titanosaur sauropod skeleton in Rio Negro, Argentina. Through cladistic and dental measurement data analyses, three dental morphotypes confidently identified as abelisaurid theropods.
