Detecting Volcano-Related Underground Mass Changes With a Quantum Gravimeter

Laura Antoni-Micollier et al.

Summary: This study presents the first-ever time series acquired in the summit area of an active volcano using an absolute atom interferometry gravimeter. Despite unfavorable environmental conditions and high volcanic tremor, the device produced high-quality gravity measurements that were able to capture volcanic processes. The results confirm the operational possibilities of quantum gravimetry and open new horizons for gravity methods in geophysics.

Ship-borne dynamic absolute gravity measurement based on cold atom gravimeter

Che Hao et al.

Summary: The development of cold atom gravimeter has great significance for deep sea absolute gravity measurement and underwater long-term and high-precision navigation. However, most cold atom gravimeters are still in the state of laboratory static or quasi-static base measurement, which cannot meet the needs of dynamic application scenarios. This paper analyzes the basic principle and method of dynamic measurement, and establishes an absolute dynamic gravity measurement system based on cold atom gravimeter and inertial stabilization platform. By conducting ship-borne experiments, the performance of the cold atom gravimeter is evaluated in laboratory static environment, and the accuracy of ship-borne absolute dynamic gravity measurement is assessed. This experimental study provides preliminary verification and technical scheme reference for marine absolute dynamic gravity measurement.
