Synthesis of selective heteroatomic collectors for the improved separation of sulfide minerals

Wanjia Zhang et al.

Summary: The study synthesized chelating collectors based on heterocyclic thioketone framework and investigated their selectivity and mechanism through flotation experiments and theoretical calculations. The results showed that non-ionic collectors displayed better selectivity and weaker collecting ability, while strong ionic collectors exhibited the opposite behavior. This research not only revealed the potential of thioketones as selective sulfide collectors, but also provided a selectivity model based on bonding and charge transfer characteristics for further development of more selective sulfide collectors.

Improved flotation separation of sulfide minerals by synthesized surfactant based on para-position methyl effect

Wanjia Zhang et al.

Summary: Flotation technology is one of the greatest technologies in the 21st century that enables the large-scale utilization of mineral resources. Successful flotation separation relies on surfactants with unique selectivity towards different minerals. This study introduced a methyl group to synthesize a novel collector, sodium p-toluenesulfinate (SPTS), which demonstrated better selectivity than commonly used collectors SBS and EX. The improved selectivity of SPTS was attributed to its desolvation effect and the difference in hydration layers between galena and pyrite.

Surfactant-enhanced remediation of oil-contaminated soil and groundwater: A review

Jian-Wu Liu et al.

Summary: Oil leakage during extraction, processing, transportation, and storage can seriously damage the soil and groundwater environment. Surfactants play a crucial role in enhancing the remediation of oil-contaminated sites by reducing surface tension, improving contact efficiency of contaminants, and suppressing tailing and rebound effects. Different types of surfactants offer diverse options for remediation, with biosurfactants and mixed surfactants being particularly effective and worth attention. Adsorption of surfactants on soils and aquifer sediments should be minimized to avoid decreased remediation efficiency and potential secondary pollution.
