The in situ DBD plasma for Remazol dyes-based textile wastewater remediation

K. Kusumandari et al.

Summary: This study reports the use of in situ dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma for degrading organic pollutants in batik wastewater. The results show that treatment time and flow rate significantly affect the physical and chemical characteristics of the wastewater. The DBD plasma treatment achieves a degradation efficiency of 99.95% and can save up to 21% of the cost compared to conventional methods.

Recent advances of cold plasma technology for water and soil remediation: A critical review

Christos A. Aggelopoulos

Summary: Cold plasma as a promising remediation method shows high environmental compatibility and energy efficiency, but still faces challenges in maximizing the production of reactive species, increasing the contact area between plasma and pollutants, and ensuring feasibility in real life conditions. Efforts have been made to develop different plasma remediation systems for optimal results, but critical factors and limitations still need to be addressed for effective industrial implementation.

Major products and their formation and transformation mechanism through degrading UDMH wastewater via DBD low temperature plasma

Xiaogang Mu et al.

Summary: In this study, the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) low temperature plasma technology was used to degrade dimethyl hydrazine wastewater. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used to study the changes of NDMA and FDMH during the degradation process. The formation mechanisms of NDMA and FDMH were calculated using density functional theory and molecular orbital theory. Through the research, it was found that NDMA is produced by the oxidation of -NH2, while FDMH is mainly produced from dimethyl hydrazine and formaldehyde.

Plasmacatalytic bubbles using CeO2 for organic pollutant degradation

Renwu Zhou et al.

Summary: The study developed a Plasma Catalytic Bubble Column Reactor to efficiently treat water by delivering oxidative reactive species produced by plasma to the liquid phase. The addition of CeO2 catalysts enhanced the degradation of water contaminants, with improved performance and durability through plasma pre-activation. The integrated system demonstrated superior removal efficiency and kinetic constant compared to individual components, showing potential for water purification.

Dynamics of Active Brownian Particles in Plasma

Kyaw Arkar et al.

Summary: Experimental data shows the active Brownian motion of single particles in RF discharge plasma is influenced by thermophoretic force induced by laser radiation, depending on the material and type of surface of the particle. Active Brownian particles, known as micro-swimmers, move directionally unlike passive Brownian particles. Different dust particles in gas discharge plasma can convert energy of surrounding medium (laser radiation) into kinetic energy of motion, exhibiting a movement that combines chaotic motion and self-propulsion.

Efficient degradation and mineralization of methylene blue via continuous-flow electrohydraulic plasma discharge

Anilkumar Krosuri et al.

Summary: A continuous-flow electrohydraulic plasma discharge (EHPD) process was developed and investigated for degrading methylene blue (MB) in water. The study showed that complete degradation of MB was achieved within a short treatment time under optimal liquid and air flow rates. Hydroxyl radicals were found to be the main reactive species responsible for MB degradation, and high COD removal rates were observed, demonstrating the effectiveness and robustness of the EHPD reactor in degradation and mineralization of MB.
