Solvent coordination to palladium can invert the selectivity of oxidative addition

Emily K. Elias et al.

Summary: The properties of the solvent affect the selectivity of the Pd/(PBu3)-Bu-t-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura reaction with chloroaryl triflates, with the selectivity change primarily due to solvent coordination to palladium. Polar coordinating and polar noncoordinating solvents lead to dramatically different selectivity. The role of solvent coordination is supported by stoichiometric oxidative addition experiments, density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and catalytic cross-coupling studies.

Switchable 1,2-Rearrangement Enables Expedient Synthesis of Structurally Diverse Fluorine-Containing Scaffolds

Yuanyuan Ping et al.

Summary: Switchable selectivity in skeletal rearrangement can be achieved by controlling the migratory aptitude of different groups. Modifying the ligands on the metal catalyst and changing the oxidation states of the metal allow control over the migratory ability. This method enables site-selective activation and reorganization of C-C bonds and has been used for the synthesis of fluorine-containing scaffolds with medicinal relevance.

Advances in Catalytic Asymmetric Dearomatization

Chao Zheng et al.

Summary: Catalytic asymmetric dearomatization is an emerging research subject that has attracted considerable attention for its direct transformation of aromatic feedstocks into structurally diverse polycyclic molecules. However, the inherent difficulty and high energy input required for dearomatization may be incompatible with the general conditions needed for asymmetric catalysis, presenting obstacles that need to be overcome for advancing chemical sciences.
