Assessment of the robustness of MIL-88A in an aqueous solution: Experimental and DFT investigations

Maryam Hmoudah et al.

Summary: This study investigates the stability of MIL-88A in aqueous solutions by evaluating its chemical, thermal, and hydrolytic stability under different conditions. It is found that the structure of MIL-88A is significantly affected in basic medium and completely turns into an amorphous material when exposed to boiling water. The hydrolytic stability results reveal a gradual loss of structural integrity in each water cycle.

Coordination chemistry of metal-organic frameworks: Detection, adsorption, and photodegradation of tetracycline antibiotics and beyond

Farhad Ahmadijokani et al.

Summary: Tetracyclines are a family of broad-spectrum antibiotics that persist in aquatic environments and can lead to antibiotic resistance and toxic effects in non-target organisms. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as effective alternatives due to their photocatalytic and adsorptive capabilities. This review summarizes recent progress in the detection, adsorption, and photocatalytic degradation of tetracyclines in water, discusses the use of MOFs critically, and introduces limitations and future prospects for the development of novel multi-functional MOF-based nanomaterials.

Metal organic framework modified poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) separator membranes to improve lithium-ion battery capacity fading

J. C. Barbosa et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in the separator membrane of lithium-ion batteries. Different types of MOFs were prepared and their effects on the properties of the membrane were studied. The results show that the addition of MOFs reduces the resistivity of the battery, leading to improved performance and prolonged lifespan.

Effective and structure-controlled adsorption of tetracycline hydrochloride from aqueous solution by using Fe-based metal-organic frameworks

Zhe Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, three Fe-based MOFs were used as adsorbents to remove TCH, and the adsorption capacity was found to be influenced by their porous properties and open metal sites. Among the MOFs, MIL-101(Fe) with high pore volume, BET surface area and binding energy exhibited excellent TCH adsorption performance. The results provide insights into the surface interactions between MOFs and TCH, which will help in developing efficient MOF-based adsorbents for pollutant removal.

25 Years of Reticular Chemistry

Ralph Freund et al.

Summary: The core of reticular chemistry has brought precision and expertise of organic and inorganic synthesis to the solid state. The most profound scientific innovation of this field has been the design strategies for the synthesis of extended crystalline solids through strong directional bonds, highlighting the different classes of reticular materials developed and how complexity can be introduced into their backbones. Structural control over these materials is being extended from the molecular scale to their crystal morphology and shape on the nanoscale, all the way to their shaping on the bulk scale.

Advances in adsorptive separation of benzene and cyclohexane by metal-organic framework adsorbents

Soumya Mukherjee et al.

Summary: The chemical industry contributes around 7% of the global GDP, with 40% of its energy consumption coming from separation/purification processes of commodity chemicals. The use of recyclable adsorbents, such as metal-organic framework (MOF) physisorbents, shows promise in reducing this energy footprint, particularly in the separation of C6 cyclic hydrocarbons like benzene and cyclohexane. Despite the potential of MOFs as selective adsorbents, further research is needed to fully explore their capabilities in this niche area.
