Regulatory framing in online hotel reviews: The moderating roles of temporal distance and temporal orientation

Seeun Kim et al.

Summary: This study examines how consumers evaluate hotel reviews based on their regulatory focus, and how this evaluation can be influenced by contextual and personal factors. The findings show that temporal distance moderates the effect of regulatory-focused reviews on review attitudes, and that reviews' perceived relevance mediates this effect. It is also found that future-oriented consumers have more positive attitudes when reading promotion-focused reviews. The study provides insights for travel practitioners to better understand consumers' hotel review evaluations and improve their marketing strategies.

Examining framing effect in travel package purchase: An application of double-entry mental accounting theory

Tong Wen et al.

Summary: The study shows that subtractive framing leads to higher purchase intentions and willingness to pay, while additive framing results in higher purchase intentions in the distant future. Pleasure attenuation is a key mediator for the framing effect on travel package purchase decisions, especially for travelers with near future plans and higher price sensitivity. Pain buffering only acts as a mediator in student samples.
