Moving toward Smart Hybrid Vertical Carbon/MoS2 Binder-Free Electrodes for High-Performing Sodium-Ion Batteries

Nitheesha Shaji et al.

Summary: In this study, a binder-free composite anode with vertical carbon nanotube/molybdenum sulfide (VCNT/MoS2) hybrid nanostructures was designed to enhance the electrolyte penetration and shorten ion diffusion channels. The VCNT improves ion/electron conductivity of the electrode. The binder-free VCNT/MoS2 hybrid composite electrode exhibits superior electrochemical properties, especially high-rate capability, making it suitable for high-performing sodium-ion batteries.

Solvothermal Engineering of NaTi2(PO4)3 Nanomorphology for Applications in Aqueous Na-Ion Batteries

Gintare Gece et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive investigation on the size- and shape-controlled hydro(solvo)thermal synthesis of NaTi2(PO4)3 nanoparticles. The effects of different alcohol/water synthesis media on phase purity, morphology, and size distribution of the nanoparticles are analyzed. It is found that the water activity in the synthesis media of different alcohol solutions is the key parameter governing the phase purity, size, and shape of the nanoparticles. The careful engineering of NaTi2(PO4)3 nanoparticle morphology allows control of the electrochemical performance and degradation of these materials as aqueous Na-ion battery electrodes.

Water-Soluble Ag-Sn-S Nanocrystals Partially Coated with ZnS Shells for Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Dyes

Yanyan Chen et al.

Summary: Water-soluble nonrare metal Ag-Sn-S nanocrystals (ATS NCs) were synthesized at room temperature using the interfacial nucleation mechanism. The synthesized ATS NCs exhibited a band gap of 2.32 to 2.59 eV, giving them a high redox ability and very high photocatalytic degradation rate. The interfacial regulation of acid protonation on the surface of ATS NCs resulted in more defect states, which improved the photocatalytic oxidation degradation efficiency. The ATS NCs showed potential for practical treatment of large-scale industrial wastewater.

Comparative study of electrochemical properties of SnS and SnS2 as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries

Albina Glibo et al.

Summary: Phase pure SnS and SnS2 were synthesized and characterized using various physio-chemical techniques. The electrochemical properties of SnS and SnS2 as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries were investigated. SnS2 electrodes showed superior cycling performance compared to SnS electrodes due to the production of more Li2S during the conversion reaction and the finer distribution of Li2S within the electroactive material.

Pomegranate-like mesoporous double carbon-coated Fe2P nanoparticles as advanced anode materials for sodium-ion batteries

Zhirong Wu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) called pomegranate-like mesoporous double carbon-coated Fe2P nanoparticles (Fe2P@C@NC). The structure of Fe2P@C@NC provides a large specific surface area, pore-volume, excellent electronic conductivity network, and buffering volume expansion. It exhibits excellent performance and speedy electrode reaction kinetics during charge-discharge cycles, delivering a reversible specific capacity of 408 mAh g(-1) with almost no decay after the 100th cycle. It also demonstrates excellent rate capability and durability at high current density. The unique self-confined growth strategy used in synthesizing Fe2P@C@NC has great practical value for next-generation energy storage systems.

An ultralong-life SnS-based anode through phosphate-induced structural regulation for high-performance sodium ion batteries

Ying Wang et al.

Summary: The rational introduction of PO43 into SnS layers using phytic acid as the phosphorus source is proposed as a strategy to enhance the electrochemical performance of SnS. The presence of Sn-O-P covalent bonds from PO43 acts as a conductive pillar to mitigate volume expansion and increase interlayer spacing, leading to improved energy storage capabilities.

Atomic-Step-Induced Screw-Dislocation-Driven Spiral Growth of SnS

Yih-Ren Chang et al.

Summary: A novel technique is demonstrated to achieve a high percentage of spiral SnS flakes with superior control of nucleation position by introducing atomic steps on substrates. The study reveals that the spiral SnS structure exhibits centrosymmetric characteristic, indicating that single-spiral 2D materials with monolayer step height do not guarantee an inversion symmetry breaking structure.

Influence of post-annealing on structural, optical and electrical properties of tin nitride thin films prepared by atomic layer deposition

Mohd Zahid Ansari et al.

Summary: This article investigates the effects of post-thermal annealing treatment on the properties of tin nitride thin films. With increasing annealing temperatures, changes in the film structure and crystallinity occur, along with the release of nitrogen leading to variations in film properties. Changes in optoelectronic properties are closely related to alterations in crystallinity and stoichiometry.
