Modified equivalent circuit for coplanar dielectric barrier discharge considering undischarged areas

Zhitong Cui et al.

Summary: A modified equivalent circuit model was developed and discussed in this paper to study the essential variables and discharge properties of coplanar dielectric barrier discharge plasma. The results showed that the discharge area fraction grew quickly with voltage during the diffusion phase, leading to a significant drop in plasma impedance and burning voltage. During the saturation phase, the discharge area fraction tended to saturate, the burning voltage slowly rose, and there were many micro-discharges with greater diameters on the dielectric surface.

Enhancement of CO2 splitting in a coaxial dielectric barrier discharge by pressure increase, packed bed and catalyst addition

Rezvan Hosseini Rad et al.

Summary: CO2 splitting in a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is investigated using both empty and packed bed reactors with and without cerium oxide catalyst. The DBDs are operated at pressures up to 2 bar, with the addition of argon to reduce breakdown voltage. The electrical characteristics of the discharge are studied, along with the CO2 dissociation. Increasing pressure requires a higher minimum sustaining voltage amplitude, but the optimum power input depends on pressure and gas composition. Adding ceria-coated glass spheres improves reactor performance.

Treatment of Problematic Exhaust Air Escort Substances

Lutz Rafflenbeul et al.

Summary: New processes for exhaust air purification that improve economy and reduce carbon dioxide formation are introduced, focusing on problematic emissions in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Emission storages for batch operation with molecular sieves and flexible textile fabric are highlighted, along with assessments of photolytic processes and practical experiences, making the current status of exhaust air purification technology manageable.

Upscaling from single- to multi-filament dielectric barrier discharges in pulsed operation

H. Hoeft et al.

Summary: A study was conducted on the scalability of discharge characteristics of a single-filament dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) to a one-dimensional multi-filament arrangement driven by the same high-voltage (HV) pulses. The study found that the electrical quantities scaled with the filament number and that the discharge could be manipulated by varying the HV pulse widths. Filament formation occurred rapidly in the entire gap during pulsed operation.

Expansion of surface barrier discharge scrutinized

M. Lindner et al.

Summary: Developing the fundamentals for the electrical diagnostics of surface dielectric barrier discharges (SDBDs) is crucial for various applications. In this work, a step-wise expansion of SDBDs along the Al2O3 dielectric surface was observed, where the discharge remained constant until a critical voltage amplitude was reached.

How gas flow design can influence the performance of a DBD plasma reactor for dry reforming of methane

Y. Uytdenhouwen et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel DBD plasma reactor design and investigates factors such as the shape and size of the reaction zone, gradual gas addition, and gas mixing on the conversion rate and product composition of DRM. It is found that the choice of main gas, gas flow direction, and gas inlet position significantly impact conversion rate and energy cost.
