Numerical assessment of the effect of tube geometries on the performance of phase change material (PCM) integrated solar receiver for dish-micro gas turbine systems

Muhammad Anser Bashir et al.

Summary: The effects of three different arrangements of working fluid tubes on the melting behavior and storage capacity of Phase Change Material (PCM) integrated solar receiver were investigated. The results showed that the solar receiver with conical shaped cavity and 172 degrees bend tubes had a more suitable tube arrangement throughout the PCM volume, resulting in more uniform temperature and melting behavior. Additionally, the pressure drop was much higher in the double helical tubes compared to other bend tubes.

Assessment of power-to-power renewable energy storage based on the smart integration of hydrogen and micro gas turbine technologies

Antonio Escamilla et al.

Summary: Power-to-Power is a process that stores surplus renewable power as chemical energy in the form of hydrogen. The round-trip efficiency, considering processes such as hydrogen production, storage, distribution, and power generation, can reach a maximum of 29%. However, there is still room for improvement in increasing the round-trip efficiency, particularly in hydrogen production and power generation.

Renewable Energy-Driven Desalination: New Trends and Future Prospects of Small Capacity Systems

Lourdes Garcia-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This paper reviews and assesses new trends and future prospects for small capacity systems of Renewable Energy-driven DESalination (REDES). It identifies outstanding commercial prospects for two off-grid REDES technologies, wave energy converters with direct coupling to seawater desalination and solar micro gas turbines with biofuel backup. The paper also highlights opportunities for enhancing energy efficiency in the reverse osmosis process and developing portable REDES systems based on solar membrane distillation and microbial desalination cells.

Market Opportunities of Water Treatments Powered by Solar Micro Gas Turbines: Chile and Ecuador Case Studies

Blanca Petit et al.

Summary: The development of desalination has primarily focused on energy consumption and cost reduction, but water recovery and brine disposal have become important issues. This study proposes a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system coupled with a Solar Micro Gas Turbine (SMGT) to address challenges faced by the mining industry in remote areas. Techno-economic analysis and sensitivity analysis were conducted to evaluate the feasibility and design of the system.

A methodology for techno-economic and operation strategy optimisation of micro gas turbine-based solar powered dish-engine systems

Mohsen Ghavami et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the optimization of small-scale micro gas turbines powered by concentrated solar power. The objective is to investigate the potential of these systems for solar power generation at reasonable costs. The study utilizes a computational model and a genetic algorithm optimization framework to find system designs with optimal techno-economic performance. The results show that the levelized cost of electricity can be significantly reduced by considering economy of scale and locations with higher annual insolation.
