Integration profiling of transcriptome and metabolome reveals the effect of hydrogen peroxide on nucleic acid metabolism in postharvest broccoli during storage

Yuxiao Zhang et al.

Summary: An integration profiling of transcriptome and metabolome was performed to understand the effects and molecular regulation mechanism of H2O2 on nucleic acid metabolism in yellowing and senescence process of postharvest broccoli. The results showed that H2O2 delayed yellowing and increased relative conductivity, as well as promoted DNA replication and repair, transcription and pre-mRNA processing, and translation process in broccoli. H2O2 also maintained higher contents of nucleic acid-related metabolites, DNA and RNA, ultimately delaying the senescence of postharvest broccoli.

Physiological and iTRAQ-based proteomic analyses for yellowing of postharvest broccoli heads under elevated O2 controlled atmosphere

Yuxiao Zhang et al.

Summary: Controlled atmosphere storage is effective in regulating chlorophyll degradation in broccoli heads. Elevated O2 levels were found to promote chlorophyll degradation and carotenoid synthesis, accelerating yellowing. Proteomics analysis revealed that high O2 levels disrupted antioxidant metabolism, leading to damage in photosystems and ribosomes in broccoli heads. The study provides insights into the mechanisms of yellowing acceleration in broccoli heads under elevated O2, potentially leading to new preservation technologies.

Diphenyleneiodonium delays the deposition of suberin polyphenolic and lignin at wounds of potato tubers by inhibiting Strbohs transcription and NADPH oxidase activity

Yingyue Ren et al.

Summary: The study showed that DPI treatment decreased the expression of Strbohs in potato tuber wound tissue, inhibited the activity of NOX and superoxide dismutase, reduced the accumulation of H2O2 and O2 center dot, leading to decreased deposition of SPP and lignin at the wound surfaces.

Elevated CO2 delayed yellowing by maintaining chlorophyll biosynthesis and inhibiting chlorophyll degradation and carotenoid accumulation of postharvest broccoli

Yuxiao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect and mechanism of elevated CO2 treatment on pigment metabolism in postharvest broccoli. The results showed that 30% CO2 treatment could delay yellowing by reducing chlorophyll loss and carotenoid accumulation, thereby maintaining higher nutritional quality. It was also found that elevated CO2 treatment up-regulated chlorophyll synthesis genes and down-regulated chlorophyll degradation genes in postharvest broccoli.

Auxin and abscisic acid antagonistically regulate ascorbic acid production via the SlMAPK8-SlARF4-SlMYB11 module in tomato

Xin Xu et al.

Summary: In tomato fruits, the accumulation of ascorbic acid (AsA) is antagonistically regulated by auxin and abscisic acid (ABA) through the SlMAPK8-SlARF4-SlMYB11 module, which plays a crucial role in drought stress tolerance.

The effect of processing and cooking on glucoraphanin and sulforaphane in brassica vegetables

Jing Sun et al.

Summary: Various cooking methods have different effects on the retention of GLR and the formation of SLR, with freezing helping to avoid GLR loss and short-time microwaving, short-time steaming, and fermentation promoting the biotransformation from GLR to SLR; Boiling and blanching cause the largest losses of GLR and SLR, while freezing significantly protects their losses; Stir-frying varies the levels of GLR and SLR in different cooking conditions.

Synergistic inhibitory effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) and chlorine dioxide (ClO2) treatment on chlorophyll degradation of green pepper fruit during storage

Yamin Du et al.

Summary: The combination of 1-MCP and ClO2 was more effective in preserving the color, reducing the respiration rate, and maintaining chlorophyll content of green pepper compared to using 1-MCP or ClO2 alone. The combined treatment showed superior efficiency in suppressing genes related to the chlorophyll degradation pathway. The results indicate the different regulatory roles of 1-MCP and ClO2 on chlorophyll degradation pathway and provide an efficient method for preserving green pepper.

Molecular cloning and expression analysis of hydrogen peroxide sensors under H2O2 and ROS inhibitor treatment in 'Kyoho' grape berry

Hai-Nan Liu et al.

Summary: Research uncovered that hypotaurine can reduce hydrogen peroxide content by increasing ROS-scavenging enzyme activity, thus slowing down senescence of grape berries. The four identified VvHPCAs in grape may function as hydrogen peroxide sensors and regulate hydrogen peroxide signaling and metabolism.

Interaction between endogenous H2O2 and OsVPE3 in the GA-induced PCD of rice aleurone layers

Yu Xiao et al.

Summary: The study reveals that endogenous H2O2 plays a crucial role in regulating gibberellic acid-induced programmed cell death (PCD) of rice aleurone layers by interacting with OsVPE3. Imbalance in intracellular H2O2 levels can lead to delayed or premature PCD in the aleurone layers.
