Schisandrin B protects against LPS-induced inflammatory lung injury by targeting MyD88

Weiwei Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the anti-inflammatory mechanism of Schisandrin B (Sch B) in macrophages and an animal model of acute lung injury (ALI) and found that Sch B directly binds to MyD88 to regulate inflammatory responses and inhibit the expression of inflammatory factors. The study suggests that Sch B has therapeutic potential for ALI and other MyD88-dependent inflammatory diseases.

Pharmacologic effects approach of essential oils and their components on respiratory diseases

Jia Li et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the traditional applications and modern pharmacological mechanisms of essential oils (EOs) derived from aromatic herbs in respiratory diseases. The preventive and therapeutic effects of EOs on various lung diseases are presented, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, acute lung injury, pulmonary infection, and pulmonary fibrosis. The molecular mechanisms of EOs in treating different lung diseases are summarized, including anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, mucolytic, and immune regulatory mechanisms.

Essential oil of Acorus tatarinowii Schott inhibits neuroinflammation by suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome activation in 3 x Tg-AD transgenic mice

Zhiwei Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that Shi chang pu (SCP-oil) can improve cognitive impairment, reduce pathological damage, and inhibit neuroinflammation in AD mice. This neuroprotective effect is achieved through the inhibition of the NF-kappa B signaling pathway and reduced activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome.

Icariside II attenuates bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis by modulating macrophage polarization

Lingling Deng et al.

Summary: Numerous studies have shown that Icariside II (ISE II) plays a significant role in preventing and treating various chronic diseases such as diabetes and fibrosis in different organs. This study investigated the therapeutic effect of ISE II in models of pulmonary fibrosis and found that it inhibits pro-fibrotic macrophage polarization by modulating the WNT/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Protective effect of Amomum Roxb. essential oils in lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury mice and its metabolomics

Kai Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effects of Amomum Roxb. essential oils (AEOs) against acute lung injury (ALI) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in mice. The findings revealed that AEOs ameliorated inflammation and oxidative stress through the TLR4/Myd88/NF-Kappa B pathway.

Protective effect of pteryxin on LPS-induced acute lung injury via modulating MAPK/NF-κB pathway and NLRP3 inflammasome activation

Tian-qi Xuan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential of pteryxin in alleviating LPS-induced lung injury and explore the underlying mechanism. The results indicated that pteryxin effectively reduced the severity of lung injury by suppressing the MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway and NLRP3 inflammasome activation.

TGF-β in developmental and fibrogenic EMTs

Jun Ho Lee et al.

Summary: TGF-beta plays a crucial role in development, wound healing, fibrosis, and cancer by inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMTs). EMTs are regulated by multiple signaling inputs, with RAS-MAPK signaling frequently required for EMT induction by TGF-beta. Recent studies have revealed the molecular basis for the cooperation between the TGF-beta-SMAD and RAS-MAPK pathways in EMT induction, offering insights into EMT and progenitor cell differentiation during gastrulation and cancer metastasis.

Efficacy of antifibrotic drugs, nintedanib and pirfenidone, in treatment of progressive pulmonary fibrosis in both idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and non-IPF: a systematic review and meta-analysis

James Patrick Finnerty et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of nintedanib and pirfenidone in the treatment of progressive pulmonary fibrosis, finding that anti-fibrotic therapy can slow the decline in forced vital capacity in both IPF and non-IPF patients. However, there was insufficient data to confirm a reduction in mortality in non-IPF patients with anti-fibrotic therapy.
