Knee osteoarthritis accelerates amyloid beta deposition and neurodegeneration in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between knee osteoarthritis (OA) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) by using an AD mouse model. The researchers induced knee OA in control and AD mice and analyzed the effects on brain histology and neuroinflammation. The results showed that OA increased inflammatory cytokine levels, beta-amyloid plaque deposition, and neuronal loss in AD mice, suggesting that knee OA could accelerate dementia progression in AD.

Associations between saliva and plasma cytokines in cognitively normal, older adults

Summary: This study found that inflammatory markers in saliva are associated with those found in circulation, suggesting shared inflammatory mechanisms between these two fluids. The higher levels of cytokines measured in saliva suggest that it might represent a better peripheral fluid to gauge inflammatory processes. Additionally, the research revealed robust sex differences in several salivary cytokines, indicating potential implications for their use as disease biomarkers in the elderly and their association with sex differences in the prevalence of age-related conditions.

IL-6 and IL-8 are likely associated with psychological status in treatment naive general population

Summary: This study investigated the inflammatory biomarker profiles of psychological treatment-naive individuals and found that levels of IL-6 and IL-8 were positively correlated with symptoms of depression, suggesting they may play a role in the pathogenesis of psychological disorders. However, these associations were not significant after multiple testing. Larger and longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings.

The relationship between pulse pressure with plasma PCSK9 and interleukin-6 among patients with acute ischemic stroke and dyslipidemia

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of plasma PCSK9 and IL-6 in acute ischemic stroke with dyslipidemia. The results showed that plasma PCSK9 levels were associated with the low pulse pressure subgroup, while IL-6 was associated with the high pulse pressure subgroup. Controlling dyslipidemia is necessary for stroke patients with high pulse pressure.

Accuracy of Actigraphy Compared to Concomitant Ambulatory Polysomnography in Narcolepsy and Other Sleep Disorders

Summary: Actigraphy provides longitudinal sleep data and is an inexpensive method for measuring sleep. This study compared actigraphy to ambulatory polysomnography in different sleep-disordered patients. Results showed good accuracy but poor precision in measuring sleep time, efficiency, and latency, with actigraphy tending to overestimate sleep time and underestimate it in patients with obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy, respectively. Overall, actigraphy is reliable for measuring sleep time, but its effectiveness may decrease in subjects with low sleep efficiencies.

Salivary Inflammatory Molecules as Biomarkers of Sleep Alterations: A Scoping Review

Further research is needed to determine the sensitivity of these markers in monitoring biological rhythms and sleep-related interventions.
