One-dimensional grating coupler on lithium-niobate-on-insulator for high-efficiency and polarization-independent coupling

Bin Chen et al.

Summary: A metal-based one-dimensional grating coupler is designed and demonstrated on an x-cut lithium-niobate-on-insulator wafer structure for a polarization-independent fiber interface. By using a metal-based plasmonic mode, the diffractive angle for the two polarized modes in the lithium niobate ridge waveguide can be tuned to be the same, effectively reducing the polarization dependence of the grating coupler.

Mid-infrared polarization-insensitive grating coupler

Haoran Gao et al.

Summary: Mid-infrared (Mid-IR) silicon photonics has great potential in various applications. However, polarization-dependent losses have been a challenge in mid-IR grating couplers. This study presents an ultra-thin mid-IR polarization-insensitive grating coupler with improved coupling efficiency and reduced polarization-dependent loss, providing a promising solution for the development of mid-IR photonic integrated circuits.

High-efficient coupler for thin-film lithium niobate waveguide devices

Changran Hu et al.

Summary: A highly efficient and polarization-independent edge coupler based on LNOI is demonstrated in this paper, showing low fiber-chip coupling loss of 0.54 dB/0.59 dB per facet at 1550 nm for TE/TM light respectively. The coupler also exhibits a relatively large tolerance for optical misalignment and promising stability in high optical power and temperature variation.

Design and fabrication of a high-performance binary blazed grating coupler for perfectly perpendicular coupling

Jinbin Xu et al.

Summary: A high-performance binary blazed grating coupler (BBGC) on a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform for vertical coupling has been proposed, with high coupling efficiency and broad bandwidth. Experimental demonstration showed good performance and process tolerance, making it compatible with standard CMOS technology.
