Empirical Study of Surface Deterioration Analysis Based on Random Fields for Reinforced Concrete Structures in Marine Environment

Summary: Corrosion-induced deterioration of marine reinforced concrete structures can affect their serviceability and safety. This paper verifies the accuracy of surface deterioration analysis based on random fields through an empirical study using inspection data from a 23-year-old high-pile wharf. The simulation results show good agreement with the inspection results. Based on this, four maintenance options are compared in terms of restoration needs and economic costs, providing a tool for owners to select the optimal maintenance action to minimize lifecycle cost and ensure sufficient serviceability and safety.

Time-dependent reliability analysis of reinforced concrete beams considering marine environmental actions

Summary: This paper proposes a novel and generic computational framework to assess the time-dependent reliability of reinforced concrete (RC) structures under marine atmospheric environments. The framework includes a comprehensive life-cycle performance assessment model that considers climate change, two-dimensional chloride transport, the coupling effects and corrosion non-uniformity of reinforcement, and the nonlinear behavior of RC beams. The accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method are validated by traditional Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS).
