Quantitatively evaluating respective contribution of austenite and deformation-induced martensite to flow stress, plastic strain, and strain hardening rate in tensile deformed TRIP steel

Wenqi Mao et al.

Summary: This study performed tensile deformation with in situ neutron diffraction measurement on an Fe-24Ni-0.3C (wt.%) TRIP-assisted austenitic steel, and proposed an analysis method based on stress partitioning and phase fractions measured by neutron diffraction. The results showed that both the transformation rate and the phase stress borne by the deformation-induced martensite played important roles in the global tensile properties of the material. The proposed decomposition analysis method could be widely applied to investigating mechanical behavior of multi-phase alloys exhibiting the TRIP phenomenon.

Stress contribution of B2 phase in Al0.7CoCrFeNi eutectic high entropy alloy

Daeho Yun et al.

Summary: In this study, the deformation behavior and strengthening contribution of the FCC phase and B2 phase in Al0.7CoCrFeNi eutectic high entropy alloys were investigated. It was found that the FCC phase exhibited slip-dominant deformation, while the stress contribution of the B2 phase significantly increased with an increase in plastic strain, becoming the predominant factor in tensile deformation.

Effect of deformation-induced martensitic transformation on nonuniform deformation of metastable austenitic steel

Wenqi Mao et al.

Summary: A digital image correlation technique combined with in situ neutron diffraction was used for the first time to investigate the Portevin-Le-Chatelier (PLC) behavior in an Fe-24Ni-0.3C steel. It was found that propagating type A + B PLC bands observed in the early stage of plastic deformation changed to the non-propagating type C bands due to the occurrence of deformation-induced martensitic transformation.

Effective grain size refinement of an Fe-24Ni-0.3C metastable austenitic steel by a modified two-step cold rolling and annealing process utilizing the deformation-induced martensitic transformation and its reverse transformation

Wenqi Mao et al.

Summary: Metastable austenitic steels with ultrafine grained microstructures can be fabricated using a two-step cold rolling and annealing process. This method involves reducing the mechanical stability of austenite and accelerating the formation of deformation-induced martensite, resulting in significant grain refinement and the production of materials with high strength and ductility.

Evolution of dislocation structure determined by neutron diffraction line profile analysis during tensile deformation in quenched and tempered martensitic steels

Hiroyuki Dannoshita et al.

Summary: The role of dislocation structure on the work-hardening behavior during tensile deformation of quenched and tempered martensite was investigated. The study found that the elastic limit is not always dependent on the total dislocation density of martensite, and the dislocation arrangement parameter plays a guiding role in the strength increase of martensitic steels.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Relation between Intergranular Stress of Austenite and Martensitic Transformation in TRIP Steels Revealed by Neutron Diffraction

Stefanus Harjo et al.

Summary: In-situ neutron diffraction measurements were conducted on low-alloy steels and a 304-type stainless steel during tensile and creep tests at room temperature, revealing the relationship between intergranular stress in gamma and the occurrence of martensitic transformation during deformation. The susceptibility to martensitic transformation depended on the gamma-(hkl) grains, where gamma-(111) grains underwent martensitic transformation at the latest, and was controlled by shear stress levels in gamma-(hkl) grains affected by intergranular stress partitioning during deformation.

Grain size altering yielding mechanisms in ultrafine grained high-Mn austenitic steel: Advanced TEM investigations

Chang-Yu Hung et al.

Summary: The study found a close correlation between plastic deformation mechanisms and grain size in UFG high-Mn austenitic TWIP steel, where the main mechanism shifts from conventional slip in the grain interior to twinning nucleated from grain boundaries when the grain size is less than 1 μm. This transition is deeply associated with the discontinuous yielding behavior observed in the material.

Work hardening behavior of dual phase copper-iron alloy at low temperature

Takayuki Yamashita et al.

Summary: The tensile behavior of a copper-iron alloy was studied at different temperatures, showing an increase in strength and work-hardening rate at low temperatures. The phase stress of Fe significantly increased with decreasing temperature, while the phase stress response of Cu to applied true stress increased with decreasing temperature, indicating an increase in work-hardening rate. The strengthening of Fe and the increase in work-hardening of Cu contributed to the overall increase in strength and work-hardening rate of the Cu-Fe alloy at low temperatures.
