Human kidney-derived hematopoietic stem cells can support long-term multilineage hematopoiesis

Steicy Sobrino et al.

Summary: Long-term multilineage hematopoietic donor chimerism can occur in patients who receive a transplanted solid organ with lymphoid tissues, such as the intestine or liver. However, there is currently no evidence for kidney-resident hematopoietic stem cells in any mammal species. In this study, we found that human kidney-derived hematopoietic stem cells can reside in the recipient's bone marrow and replace host counterparts, leading to full donor chimerism of both lymphoid and myeloid lineages.

Transplantation Without Overimmunosuppression (TWO) study protocol: a phase 2b randomised controlled single-centre trial of regulatory T cell therapy to facilitate immunosuppression reduction in living donor kidney transplant recipients

Matthew Oliver Brook et al.

Summary: The TWO study is a randomized controlled trial investigating the safety and efficacy of Treg therapy in living donor kidney transplant recipients. The study aims to compare Treg therapy with standard clinical care and evaluate its impact on acute rejection, immunosuppression burden, chronic graft dysfunction, and drug-related complications.

A Large-Scale Bank of Organ Donor Bone Marrow and Matched Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Promoting Immunomodulation and Transplant Tolerance

Brian H. Johnstone et al.

Summary: Induction of immune tolerance for solid organ and vascular composite allografts is crucial in transplantation medicine to avoid lifelong immunosuppression. The most promising means of tolerance induction is through transplantation of donor hematopoietic stem cells, but durable immune tolerance has not been achieved on a large scale in other solid organs or vascular composite allografts. Ossium Health has established a bank of cryopreserved bone marrow from deceased organ donor vertebral bodies, which has the potential to be a valuable resource for treating hematological malignancies and inducing transplant tolerance.
