A systematic literature review for aflatoxin M1 of various milk types in Iran: Human health risk assessment, uncertainty, and sensitivity analysis

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review to determine the level of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) contamination in milk for different age groups in Iran over the past two decades and evaluated its health risks. The average contamination level of AFM1 in Iranian milk was found to be 77 +/- 159 ng/kg, which is higher than the EU regulation (50 ng/kg) but below the ISIRI regulation (100 ng/kg). The findings suggest potential carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risks associated with AFM1 in milk produced in Iran, highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring and control systems.

Dietary Exposure Assessment of Aflatoxin M1 in Milk and Dairy Products of Latin America

Summary: The study examined occurrences of AFM1 in milk and dairy products in Latin America from 2003 to 2018, revealing high levels of incidence and concentration. Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Mexico had the highest estimated daily intakes of AFM1. Over the 15-year period, the average intake values in Latin American countries exceeded recommended levels.

Summary: This study used a systematic review to estimate the amount and health risk assessment of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in infant formula milk (IFM) for infants less than one year old worldwide over the past two decades. Results showed that the quality of IFM in most countries has been at a high level in terms of AFM1. Therefore, it is necessary to pay special attention to continuous monitoring and control measures for AFM1 in consumer IFM globally.

Human health risk assessment of aflatoxin M1 in raw and pasteurized milk from the Kermanshah province, Iran

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the amount of aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in milk and assess its human health risk in Kermanshah province, Iran. The results showed that the AFM1 level in raw milk during summer was higher than the European Union limit and posed a health risk for all age groups. Therefore, measures should be taken to reduce AFM1 levels in milk in Kermanshah province.
