Cucurbitacin B: A review of its pharmacology, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics

Shu Dai et al.

Summary: Cucurbitacin B (CuB) is the most abundant and active member of cucurbitacins, with a broad range of pharmacological activities and significant therapeutic effects on various diseases. This study comprehensively summarizes the pharmacological activity, toxicity, and pharmacokinetic properties of CuB, which exhibits potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, hypoglycemic, hepatoprotective, neuroprotective, and anti-cancer activities mainly via regulating various signaling pathways. Derivatives and clinical applications of CuB are also discussed.

Effects of edpetiline from Fritillaria on inflammation and oxidative stress induced by LPS stimulation in RAW264.7 macrophages

Hongli Zhang et al.

Summary: Fritillaria cirrhosa can be used to resolve phlegm, soothe cough, and clear heat, with its main active components being alkaloids. Edpetiline may exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects by inhibiting multiple signaling pathways, suggesting its potential for preventing or treating inflammation- and oxidative stress-related diseases.

Blocking the EGFR/p38/NF-κB signaling pathway alleviates disruption of BSCB and subsequent inflammation after spinal cord injury

Zai-Wang Li et al.

Summary: The activation of EGFR in main cellular components of BSCB after SCI mediates BSCB disruption and secondary inflammatory injury via the EGFR/p38/NF-kappa B pathway. Inactivation of EGFR or p38 inhibits NF-kappa B nuclear translocation, reduces production of pro-inflammatory factors, and preserves TJ proteins, thereby mitigating the secondary injury after SCI.

Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the chemical profile for Gualou-Xiebai-Banxia decoction, a classical traditional Chinese medicine formula for the treatment of coronary heart disease, by UPLC-Q/TOF-MS combined with chemometric analysis

Pei Lin et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the chemical composition of GXB using UPLC-Q/TOF-MS and found that PRP enriched the structural types of chemical compounds in GXB and increased the abundance of active components from other herbal medicines, TP and AMB. This lays a foundation for further investigation into the potential effective components and therapeutic mechanisms of GXB.

Protective Effects of Microbiome-Derived Inosine on Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Liver Damage and Inflammation in Mice via Mediating the TLR4/NF-κB Pathway

Weiling Guo et al.

Summary: The research assessed the protective effects of inosine on liver injury and inflammation by modulating the intestinal microbiota structure and TLR4/NF-kappa B signaling pathway in LPS-treated mice. Inosine pretreatment significantly reduced inflammatory factors secretion, ALT and AST levels, and improved antioxidant enzyme activity and relative abundance of certain genera. The results suggest that inosine pretreatment has the potential for preventing LPS-induced acute liver damage through its regulatory effects on both intestinal microbiota and hepatic signaling pathways.

IL-6 in inflammation, autoimmunity and cancer

Toshio Hirano

Summary: IL-6 is involved in various physiological processes including immune responses and inflammation. It plays a crucial role in chronic inflammation and cytokine storms, such as seen in COVID-19. The IL-6 amplifier, involving NF-kappa B and STAT3, is a key mechanism in promoting uncontrolled inflammatory responses.
