One-pot microwave synthesis of chitosan-stabilized silver nanoparticles entrapped polyethylene oxide nanofibers, with their intrinsic antibacterial and antioxidant potency for wound healing

Meshari M. Aljohani et al.

Summary: Different physical and chemical techniques were used to prepare CHS/AgNPs nanocomposite, and microwave heating reactor was adopted due to its advantages of low energy consumption and shorter processing time. UV-Vis, FTIR, and XRD analysis confirmed the creation of AgNPs, and TEM images showed spherical particles with a size of 20 nm. CHS/AgNPs were embedded in PEO nanofiber through electrospinning, and their biological properties, cytotoxicity, antioxidant, and antibacterial activity were investigated. The nanofibers exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus, with ZOI of 51.2 +/- 3.2 and 47.2 +/- 2.1, respectively. Moreover, they showed non-toxicity against human skin fibroblast and keratinocytes cell lines, indicating their potential for wound infection prevention with minimal adverse effects.

An overview of the research progress of BRCA gene mutations in breast cancer

Andi Wan et al.

Summary: The BRCA gene is an important tumor suppressor gene that includes BRCA1 and BRCA2, serving as a biomarker to assess breast cancer risk and influence personalized treatment options. BRCA mutations increase the risk of breast cancer, but breast-conserving surgery and preventive mastectomy can still be options to reduce this risk. BRCA mutations are sensitive to PARP inhibitor therapy and can be treated with a combination of other DNA damage pathway inhibitors, endocrine therapy, and immunotherapy. This review provides a foundation for individualized treatment of BRCA1/2 mutant breast cancer.
