Implementation of T-history method to determine the thermophysical properties of the phase change materials

Arun Gopinathan et al.

Summary: In this study, the thermophysical properties of coconut oil and RT28HC phase-change materials were analyzed using the T-history method. The experimental procedures standardized the method and allowed for the evaluation of thermophysical properties. The results showed that RT28HC had a higher latent heat storage capacity compared to coconut oil.

Minghan Xu et al.

Summary: We propose a multi-scale solidification framework for pure substances, combining laboratory experiments and mathematical modeling. State-of-the-art thermal control chamber and optical devices are utilized to capture the multi-scale phenomena of solidification. A unified mathematical model is developed to quantitatively examine the solidification process at three scales, and the results show good agreement with experimental data.

Bubble-injection-enabled significant reduction of supercooling and controllable triggering of crystallization of erythritol for medium-temperature thermal energy storage

Sheng Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel method of injecting gas bubbles into subcooled liquid erythritol to reduce its supercooling effect and facilitate the nucleation of erythritol crystals. The injection of bubbles successfully reduces the degree of supercooling of erythritol to only 5 degrees Celsius and greatly increases the latent heat of crystallization. This method is considered as a highly efficient, cost-effective, and scalable solution for addressing the supercooling issue of erythritol and similar phase change materials.

Experimental investigation on the supercooling and heat conduction of sodium acetate trihydrate/copper foam/YSZ composite phase change material

Yu He et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that using YSZ as a nucleating agent and copper foam as a matrix can simultaneously reduce the supercooling degree and improve the thermal conductivity of SAT. Experimental results show the influences of YSZ content on SAT supercooling and the porosity of copper foam on the thermal conductivity of SAT. The thermal conductivity of the SAT/copper foam/YSZ composite PCM was significantly higher than that of pure SAT, with a volume energy storage density 2.09-2.20 times as that of water.
