Shock tube experimental studies on the ignition delay of n-heptane/ethanol fuel blends with acetaldehyde (CH3CHO) and oxynitride(NO/NO2) additives

Can Yang et al.

Summary: In recent studies on low-temperature combustion engines, it has been discovered that the incomplete oxidation products (IOP) present significant chemical effects in exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). This study focuses on CH3CHO and NO as typical ingredients of IOP and investigates their impact on ignition delay times of n-heptane/ethanol fuel blends through experiments. The results show that both CH3CHO and NO promote ignition, with NO having a stronger promoting effect. Additionally, the promoting effect of CH3CHO weakens with increasing temperature, while the promoting effect of NO strengthens. Chemical kinetic analysis reveals that both CH3CHO and NO accelerate fuel decomposition by producing more OH radicals during the ignition stage. These findings highlight the importance of IOP's chemical effects in EGR.

Effect of nitric oxide and exhaust gases on gasoline surrogate autoignition: iso-octane experiments and modeling

Ruozhou Fang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) on engine emissions and combustion phasing, as well as the impact of NO addition on autoignition. The research finds that the chemical effects of CO2 and H2O on fuel autoignition are insignificant, and the influence of NO on ignition delay time varies with temperature. The development of a chemical kinetic model for gasoline surrogate components and NOx demonstrates the model's reliability and applicability in different operating conditions.

Experimental and kinetic study on laminar flame speeds of ammonia/syngas/air at a high temperature and elevated pressure

Geyuan Yin et al.

Summary: The study shows that H abstraction reactions and NHi combination reactions play important roles in ammonia oxidation, while NO formation is closely related to H, OH, the O radical produced, and formation reactions. NO is mainly formed from reaction, HNO + H = NO + H-2. Furthermore, both ammonia oxidation and NO formation are sensitive to small radical reactions and ammonia related reactions.

Laminar flame speeds and ignition delay times for isopropyl nitrate and propane blends

Mark E. Fuller et al.

Summary: This study investigates the laminar flame speed and ignition delay time of blends of isopropyl-nitrate and propane. The results show that under fuel-rich conditions, isopropyl-nitrate has a faster flame speed and a broader range. The ignition delay time of propane with 1% isopropyl-nitrate shows no significant difference compared to pure propane, while the addition of 10% isopropyl-nitrate exhibits higher reactivity.

Effects of using ammonia as a primary fuel on engine performance and emissions in an ammonia/biodiesel dual-fuel CI engine

Ebrahim Nadimi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of ammonia as a primary fuel with biodiesel in a dual-fuel mode. The results show that up to 69.4% of the input energy can be provided by ammonia, but increasing the ammonia mass flow rate slightly decreases the brake thermal efficiency. Furthermore, increasing the ammonia load contribution significantly reduces CO2, CO, and HC emissions, but increases NO emissions. Ammonia delays the start of combustion and decreases the combustion duration compared to pure biodiesel operation.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of ferrocene on combustion of low-octane gasoline, finding it has a strong inhibiting effect on main ignition and enhances negative temperature coefficient behavior. The kinetic model can reasonably simulate the inhibiting effect of ferrocene, highlighting differences in impact compared to the conventional reactivity enhancer EHN.

An experimental and kinetic study the effect of nitrogen dioxide addition on autoignition of n-heptane

Lei Shi et al.

Summary: Vitiation effect is crucial in combustion experiments, with NO2 playing a significant role in affecting the ignition behavior of hydrocarbons like n-heptane. The addition of NO2 can promote n-heptane oxidation and reduce ignition delay times at high temperatures, while having a minimal impact at lower temperatures. The effect of NO2 is dependent on temperature and NO2 concentration levels.
