Detection of mycotoxins in cheese using an optimized analytical method based on a QuEChERS extraction and UHPLC-MS/MS quantification

Ines Rodriguez-Canas et al.

Summary: This study presents a reliable method to quantify 32 mycotoxins in cheese. The method involves a QuEChERS extraction process and UHPLC-MS/MS detection. The method was validated for accuracy and precision, and applied to the analysis of 38 commercial cheese samples. High occurrences of beauvericin and enniatins were found, with ochratoxin A concentrations posing a potential risk to human health in three samples.

Development of N and S doped carbon sorbent-based dispersive micro solid phase extraction method combined with dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction for selected mycotoxins from soymilk samples

Anahid Rezaeefar et al.

Summary: The study developed a combined method of dispersive micro solid-phase extraction and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction for the simultaneous extraction of five mycotoxins in soymilk samples. The method showed low limits of detection and quantification, with acceptable repeatability in analyzing different samples from the market. The proposed approach successfully detected aflatoxin B1 in all tested samples and ochratoxin A in one sample.

T-2 and HT-2 toxins in harvested oat grains and their prevalence in whole grain flour during storage

Sigita Janaviciene et al.

Summary: Mycotoxin contamination of food is a global concern. This study aimed to optimize and validate a method for detecting T-2/HT-2 toxin concentrations in oats and observe the changes in toxin concentrations in oat flour during storage under different temperature and humidity conditions. The results showed that A type trichothecenes contamination was widespread in oats, with the highest contamination occurring under warm and wet weather conditions. Long-term storage had an impact on toxin production, with temperature and time being the most important factors.

Simultaneous determination of aflatoxins, fumonisin B1, T-2 and cyclopiazonic acid in agri-products by immunomagnetic solid-phase extraction coupled with UHPLC-MS/MS

Wenhua Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a rapid and sensitive determination method for seven mycotoxins was developed using IMPSE coupled with UHPLC-MS/MS. The method showed good linearity, low limit of quantifications, high recoveries, and good precision. It was successfully applied to analyze mycotoxins in peanut, maize, and wheat.

Single and combined effects of regulated and emerging mycotoxins on viability and mitochondrial function of SH-SY5Y cells

Nadia Perez-Fuentes et al.

Summary: The study revealed that individual mycotoxins had the most damaging effects on neuronal cells, while non-regulated mycotoxins induced apoptosis by affecting mitochondrial membrane potential. Antagonistic effects were observed in all cases when regulated and non-regulated mycotoxins were combined in binary mixtures.

Multianalyte method for the determination of regulated, emerging and modified mycotoxins in milk: QuEChERS extraction followed by UHPLC-MS/MS analysis

Jesus M. Gonzalez-Jartin et al.

Summary: A simple method for quantifying 40 mycotoxins in milk was developed using QuEChERS extraction and UHPLC-MS/MS detection, achieving low LOQs, high recoveries, and acceptable performance characteristics in line with European regulations. The method successfully quantified mycotoxins in raw milk, highlighting the high occurrence of beauvericin and enniatins in small amounts.

Development and optimization of a method based on QuEChERS-dSPE followed by UPLC-MS/MS for the simultaneous determination of 21 mycotoxins in nutmeg and related products

Xiangsheng Zhao et al.

Summary: This study describes a simple, robust, and sensitive mycotoxin analysis method for the simultaneous identification and quantification of 21 mycotoxins in nutmeg and related products. The method was applied to 45 samples of nutmegs, mace, and related products, with most samples showing no mycotoxin contamination and some samples exceeding the regulatory maximum residue limits suggested by the European Commission and China.
