L-DOPA-Induced Neurogenesis in the Hippocampus Is Mediated through GPR143, a Distinct Mechanism of Dopamine

Yuka Kasahara et al.

Summary: Neurogenesis in the hippocampus is regulated by L-DOPA and its receptor GPR143 independently of dopamine. Low concentrations of L-DOPA promote neurogenesis, and its effect is abolished in GPR143 gene-deficient mice. Decreased neurogenesis and exacerbated depression-like behavior are observed in adult GPR143 gene-deficient mice, but can be attenuated by replenishment of GPR143 in the hippocampus.

Increased accuracy of genomic predictions for growth under chronic thermal stress in rainbow trout by prioritizing variants from GWAS using imputed sequence data

Grazyella M. Yoshida et al.

Summary: Utilizing imputation of genotypes and whole-genome sequencing data, this study investigated the genetic architecture of growth traits in rainbow trout under chronic heat stress, revealing the polygenic nature of these traits. GWAS identified important functional candidate genes associated with growth traits, and using preselected SNPs based on GWAS hits improved the accuracy of genomic prediction. The use of WGS slightly increased prediction accuracy, supporting the evidence of the polygenic nature of growth traits measured under heat stress.

Weighted Single-Step GWAS Identifies Genes Influencing Fillet Color in Rainbow Trout

Ridwan O. Ahmed et al.

Summary: The visual appearance of fish fillet is important for consumers' purchase decisions. This study used weighted, single-step GWAS to explore the genetic basis of fillet color variation in rainbow trout. Several genetic markers related to carotenoid metabolism, myoglobin homeostasis, protection against lipid oxidation, and muscle structural integrity were identified. These findings have significant implications for improving fillet color in rainbow trout.

A Post-GWAS Functional Analysis Confirming Effects of Three BTA13 Genes CACNB2, SLC39A12, and ZEB1 on Dairy Cattle Reproduction

Abdul Sammad et al.

Summary: In this study, the associations and expression levels of three genes, CACNB2, SLC39A12, and ZEB1, with reproduction in dairy cattle were investigated. The results demonstrated the importance of these genes in reproductive traits and provided valuable genetic markers for genomic selection in this area.

Identification of candidate SNPs and genes associated with anti-RGNNV using GWAS in the red-spotted grouper, Epinephelus akaara

Min Yang et al.

Summary: The red-spotted grouper, a commercially important species in China and Southeast Asia, faces a serious threat from RGNNV disease outbreaks. By conducting a GWAS, researchers identified candidate genes involved in nervous system development, retinal formation, and lipid metabolism regulation, suggesting potential pathways to enhance disease resistance. This study provides insights for marker-assisted selection in breeding programs aiming to improve red-spotted grouper's resilience to RGNNV.
