Adenosine receptors as emerging therapeutic targets for diabetic kidney disease

Eun Seon Pak et al.

Summary: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a global pandemic, and there is an urgent need for novel therapeutic options. The role of adenosine and adenosine receptors (ARs) in the development and progression of DKD highlights the potential of AR modulators as a new treatment option.

The PKGIα-Rac1 pathway is a novel regulator of insulin-dependent glucose uptake in cultured rat podocytes

Irena Audzeyenka et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the PKGI alpha-dependent Rac1 signaling pathway enhances insulin-mediated glucose uptake in podocytes, while downregulation of PKGI alpha or Rac1 expression abolishes this effect. Silencing of Rac1 prevents actin remodeling and GLUT4 translocation to the cell membrane.

Insulin-promoted mobilization of GLUT4 from a perinuclear storage site requires RAB10

Alexandria Brumfield et al.

Summary: The TBC1D4-RAB10 signaling module is found to control GLUT4 mobilization from the TGN storage compartment, indicating that insulin regulates GLUT4 behavior not only at the plasma membrane but also deeper within the cell. Results show that the GLUT4-containing region of the TGN functions as a sorting and storage site, where various cargoes are mobilized by distinct signals through unique molecular machinery.
