Comparative analysis of Boron, nitrogen, and phosphorous doping in monolayer of semi-metallic Xenes (Graphene, Silicene, and Germanene)-A first principle calculation based approach

Aditya Tiwari et al.

Summary: In this study, a detailed theoretical investigation based on density functional theory (DFT) has been conducted to compare the effects of Boron (B), Nitrogen (N), and Phosphorous (P) doping on the structural stability, structural and electronic properties of semimetallic Xene materials (Graphene, Silicene, and Germanene). The results indicate that B, N, and P doping have different impacts on the structural stability of Graphene, Silicene, and Germanene. The introduction of doping species also influences the cohesive energy, bond length, lattice vector, and average buckling distance of Xenes. Additionally, the electronic properties of Xenes, including the energy band gap, effective masses, and spin-orbital splitting, are affected by doping. This work provides important insights and guidance for non-metallic doping approaches in Xenes, which can lead to the transformation from semimetallic to semiconducting properties and potential applications in electronic devices, optoelectronics, and energy storage.

Theoretical investigation of the structural and electronic properties of bilayer van der Waals heterostructure of Janus molybdenum di-chalcogenides - Effects of interlayer chalcogen pairing

Naresh Bahadursha et al.

Summary: This work presents a comprehensive investigation of the structural and electronic properties of van der Waals bilayer heterostructures between Janus Molybdenum Di-chalcogenides. The study identifies four distinct interlayer stacking orientations for each Janus bilayer and emphasizes the influence of interlayer chalcogen pair specifications on electronic properties. The research quantifies structural stabilities in terms of cohesive energy and interlayer interaction energy, and assesses structural properties using various parameters. Furthermore, the electronic properties are studied through energy band structures, atomic orbital projections, and total density of states profiles, and benchmarked against natural homogenous bilayer counterparts.

Surface engineered phosphorene using boron and arsenic doping/ Co-doping for Co-optimizing the adsorption stability, transduction, and recovery of CO, NO, and SO gases-A density functional theory perspective

Aditya Tiwari et al.

Summary: For the first time, the effects of non-metallic Boron (B), Arsenic (As) substitutional doping, and co-doping on the adsorption of Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulphur Monoxide (SO), and Nitrogen Monoxide (NO) on monolayer Phosphorene (Ph) have been extensively studied. The dopant positions and molecular orientations significantly influence the adsorption strength and charge transfer. B doping increases the adsorption strength for all monoxides, while As doping increases CO and NO adsorption but reduces SO adsorption. B/As co-doping shows a significant increase in CO/NO adsorption and a moderate increase in SO adsorption. The co-doping exhibits a shorter recovery time and increased charge transfer after NO adsorption.

First-Principles Density Functional Theory Study of Modified Germanene-Based Electrode Materials

Xue Si et al.

Summary: Germanene, with its wrinkled atomic layer structure and high specific surface area, has shown great potential as an electrode material for supercapacitors. By introducing doping/co-doping, vacancy defects, and multilayered structures, the quantum capacitance of germanene can be significantly improved. The enhancement of quantum capacitance is achieved through the generation of localized states near the Dirac point and/or the movement of the Fermi level induced by doping and/or defects. Furthermore, it has been observed that the quantum capacitance increases monotonically with the increase in defect concentration.

Quantum capacitance of supercapacitor electrodes based on germanene influenced by vacancy and co-doping: A first-principles study

Qingxiao Zhou et al.

Summary: Germanene, with high volume/surface ratio similar to graphene, is considered to be a promising electrode material for supercapacitors. Research findings indicate that introducing transition-metal dopants can significantly enhance the quantum capacitance of germanene, with co-doped germanene showing higher C-Q at negative local potential, making it a potential candidate for cathode materials in supercapacitors. Co-doping is found to be more effective than vacancy-defect in enhancing the quantum capacitance of germanene.
