Self-Folding Graphene-Based Interface for Brain-Like Modular 3D Tissue

Koji Sakai et al.

Summary: This article proposes a self-folding graphene electrode array that can reconstruct modular 3D neuronal tissue and investigate firing dynamics among moduli. The graphene-sandwiched parylene-C film self-folds into a cylindrical structure, enabling encapsulation of living cells. The inner graphene surface serves as an electrode, allowing for long-term electrical recording from multiple 3D aggregates.

Three-dimensional self-folding assembly of multi-layer graphene at the interface with a polymeric film

Toichiro Goto et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that multi-layer graphene can self-fold to form 3D architectures at the interface with a polymeric film. The curvature radii of the self-folding films can be controlled by changing the thicknesses of the polymeric film and the stacking order. Multi-layer graphene shows linear ohmic current characteristics after self-folding, and its conductance remains higher than that of single-layer graphene.
