Flexural Properties and Hardness of CAD-CAM Denture Base Materials

Shaimaa M. Fouda et al.

Summary: This study compared the flexural strength, elastic modulus, and surface hardness of CAD-CAM milled, 3D-printed, and heat-polymerized denture base resins. The results showed that milled resins exhibited the highest values in all tested properties, followed by heat-polymerized resins, and 3D-printed resins showed the lowest values. However, the flexural strength and modulus of the 3D-printed resins were still within the clinically acceptable range.

Influence of additive manufacturing method and build angle on the accuracy of 3D-printed palatal plates

Jingtao Dai et al.

Summary: This in vitro study examined the effects of additive manufacturing (AM) methods and build angles on the trueness and precision of 3D-printed palatal plate orthodontic appliances for newborns and infants. Different AM methods (DLP, FFF, and MJP) and build angles (0°, 45°, and 90°) were used to fabricate the specimens. The results showed that both AM methods and build angles significantly influenced the dimensional accuracy of the palatal plate orthodontic appliances, with the 45° DLP and 0° MJP achieving the highest trueness and precision.

Effect of Printing Layer Thickness and Postprinting Conditions on the Flexural Strength and Hardness of a 3D-Printed Resin

Abdullah A. Alshamrani et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the mechanical properties of a 3D-printed dental resin material with different printing layer thicknesses and postprinting methods. The results showed that the 100 μm printing layer thickness had the highest flexural strength, and the postprinting treatment conditions also influenced the flexural strength and hardness of the material.

Mechanical Properties of the Modified Denture Base Materials and Polymerization Methods: A Systematic Review

Aftab Ahmed Khan et al.

Summary: This systematic review explores the effect of newer denture base materials and/or polymerization methods on the mechanical properties of the denture base. Among the identified studies, heat cure PMMA and compression moulding using a water bath are still widely used, but chemically modified PMMA using monomers, oligomers, copolymers and cross-linking agents may have promising results. However, there is no clear inference about the superiority of any polymerization method other than the conventional compression moulding technique.

Mechanical properties of polymethyl methacrylate as a denture base: Conventional versus CAD-CAM resin e A systematic review and meta-analysis of in vitro studies

Joao Pedro Justino de Oliveira Limirio et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the mechanical properties of denture base resins manufactured by conventional heat-polymerization and CAD-CAM. The results showed that CAD-CAM PMMA resins had improved flexural strength and surface roughness compared to conventional heat-polymerized PMMA, but there was a significant difference in flexural modulus.

Assessing the physical and mechanical properties of 3D printed acrylic material for denture base application

Ahmed Altarazi et al.

Summary: Three-dimensional (3D) printing is increasingly used in the dental field for its time-saving potential and cost effectiveness. This study investigated the effect of printing orientation (PO) and post-curing time (CT) on the mechanical and physical properties of a 3D-printed denture base resin. The results showed that printing vertically (90 degrees angle to the platform base) resulted in the highest physical and mechanical properties, and a post-curing time of 30 minutes was sufficient to achieve ideal results.

Summary: The synergy between dentistry and informatics has led to the emergence of new technologies, such as 3D printing, and the development of new materials. This research compared the mechanical properties of dental base resins for 3D printing with conventional resins, and found some differences in flexural strength and impact strength.

Comparison of Conventional Pressure-packed and Injection Molding Processing Methods for an Acrylic Resin Denture based on Microhardness, Surface Roughness, and Water Sorption

Elnaz Moslehifard et al.

Summary: This study compared the microhardness, surface roughness, and water sorption of a commercial acrylic resin denture fabricated using conventional and pressure-packed injection molding techniques. The results showed that the dentures fabricated using the injection molding method had higher microhardness, lower surface roughness, and lower water sorption compared to those fabricated using the conventional method. This indicates that the injection molding method can improve the quality and durability of dentures.
