Combination of inorganic and organic geochemical characteristics to study the causes of carbon isotopic anomaly of natural gas: A case study from the central gas field of the Ordos Basin, China

Wenxue Han et al.

Summary: The carbon isotopic anomaly in the central gas field of the Ordos Basin is mainly attributed to the high-temperature effects and organic carbon mixing in the Ordovician Majiagou Formation dolomite. The study of inorganic and organic geochemical characteristics confirms the origins of the anomalous natural gas.

Compositional kinetics for hydrocarbon evolution in the pyrolysis of the Chang 7 organic matter: Implications for in-situ conversion of oil shale

Lianhua Hou et al.

Summary: In this study, the compositional kinetics and temperature optimization during the heating process of Chang 7 shale in the Ordos Basin were investigated. The results showed that the maximum yields of oils and C1-5 were related to the hydrogen index (HI), while the maximum yield temperatures of C6-14, C15+, and NSOs differed. The temperatures giving maximum HC yield in in-situ conversion process (ICP) were predicted, and the oil and gas generation potentials of the Chang 7 shale were estimated.

Characterization of Products from Chloroform-Extracted Triassic Chang 7 Oil Shale Generated by Semiopen Pyrolysis

Wenxue Han et al.

Summary: A semiopen hydrocarbon generation thermal simulation experiment was conducted on the Chang 7 shale after chloroform extraction. The study analyzed the characteristics of expelled, retained, and total generated oils. The experiment revealed that the main source of oil generation is the cracking of kerogen and that the oil generation process can be divided into three stages. The study also found that the increase in pyrolysis temperature is beneficial for generating more expelled oil.

Geochemical characteristics comparison of primary gas with producing gas and its significance for depleted ethane carbon isotopic values in the Southeastern gas field of the Ordos Basin, China

Wenxue Han et al.

Summary: By comparing the geochemical parameters of fluid inclusions and produced gases, it was found that the more depleted ethane carbon isotopic values in the Southeastern gas field were caused by higher thermal maturity leading to secondary effects.

Numerical simulation on the in situ upgrading of oil shale reservoir under microwave heating

Jingyi Zhu et al.

Summary: This study presents mathematical models to simulate the temperature distribution, kerogen decomposition, and production efficiency of oil and gas under microwave heating, with a focus on the effects of output power level and thermal conductivity of oil shale on reservoir temperature distribution. The study suggests that intermittent and stepwise heating modes can effectively prevent superheating and improve production efficiency compared to electrical heating.

Reasons for carbon isotope rollover in the Yan'an gas field of the southern Ordos Basin, China: Evidence from the geochemical comparison of gas from fluid inclusions with wells

Wenxue Han et al.

Summary: The carbon isotope rollover in the Yan'an gas field is caused by depleted ethane carbon isotopes, while the methane carbon isotopes do not change much. Higher thermal maturity has disparate effects on methane and ethane, and it is an important inducement of carbon isotope rollover.

Hydrocarbon generation-retention-expulsion mechanism and shale oil producibility of the permian lucaogou shale in the Junggar Basin as simulated by semi-open pyrolysis experiments

Lianhua Hou et al.

Summary: Semi-open pyrolysis experiments on the Lucaogou shale revealed that the generation and expulsion of oil and bitumen are independent at different maturation stages, with lower oil expulsion efficiency in the early oil window. The results suggest that this shale has similar properties to natural oils and is most suitable for shale oil production at the end of the oil window.
