Weikang Guo et al.

Summary: The development of a straightforward method for preparing high-performing solid-phase microextraction (SPME) coatings is crucial. Inspired by architectural engineering, a simple and rapid synthetic strategy was developed to grow covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in situ on the surface of stainless steel wire as the SPME coating. The COF-coated fiber demonstrated superior extraction performance compared to physically adhered COF coatings and commercial polyacrylate coatings.

In situ growth of porous organic framework on iron wire for microextraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Li Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel spherical metal organic framework (MOF) was grown in situ on the surface of iron wire (IW) without adding additional metal salts, and a covalent organic framework (COF) was bonded to the surface of the MOF to obtain IW@NH2-MIL88@COF fibers. The fibers exhibited better stability and more uniform layers compared to physically coated fibers. The IW@NH2MIL88@COF fibers were used for the solid-phase microextraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in milk samples, and the extracted PAHs were determined by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID). The method showed a wide linear range, good linearity coefficient, and low detection limits for five PAHs.

Rapidly covalent immobilization of β-ketoenamine-linked covalent organic framework on fibers for efficient solid-phase microextraction of phthalic acid esters

Qidong Yu et al.

Summary: A novel chemical preparation strategy was established for rapid fabrication of covalent organic framework (COF) coated fibers. Four different COF coated fibers were successfully prepared within 1 hour, demonstrating the fast and general applicability of the strategy. The TpTph coated fiber was then used to develop a new solid-phase microextraction (SPME) method for the detection of trace phthalic acid esters (PAEs) in environmental water. The method showed low limits of detection, good precision, and short extraction time, and successfully detected trace PAEs in real water samples. The proposed fiber preparation strategy is reliable and offers a potential avenue for the rapid and facile fabrication of COF coated fibers.
