lncRNASNP v3: an updated database for functional variants in long non-coding RNAs

Yanbo Yang et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are versatile regulators in various biological processes and play crucial roles in diseases. The updated version 3 of lncRNASNP provides a comprehensive repository of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and somatic mutations in lncRNAs, along with their impacts on lncRNA structure and function. The database now includes eight eukaryotic species, expanded SNP data, and several new features, such as SNP effects on miRNA-lncRNA interactions, lncRNA expression profiles, disease and GWAS-associated lncRNAs and variants, experimental and predicted lncRNAs and drug target associations, and SNP effects on lncRNA expression across tumor and normal tissues.

HMGA2 facilitates colorectal cancer progression via STAT3-mediated tumor-associated macrophage recruitment

Xin Wang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the role of HMGA2 in the recruitment and polarization of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in colorectal cancer (CRC). The findings suggest that HMGA2 activates the transcription of STAT3 and induces the secretion of CCL2, leading to macrophage recruitment. The study also shows a positive association between HMGA2 expression in tumor cells and CD68 expression in the stroma, and patients with elevated CD68 expression have unfavorable overall survival.

Long non-coding RNA CCDC144NL-AS1 promotes cell proliferation by regulating the miR-363-3p/GALNT7 axis in colorectal cancer

Yue Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the important role of lncRNA CCDC144NL-AS1 in colorectal cancer (CRC). High expression of CCDC144NL-AS1 is associated with adverse clinicopathological features and worse prognosis in CRC. Knockdown of CCDC144NL-AS1 can inhibit the proliferation of CRC cells. The study also demonstrates that CCDC144NL-AS1 regulates cell proliferation in CRC through competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism.

miR-143-3p represses leukemia cell proliferation by inhibiting KAT6A expression

Dan Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the expressions and interactions of miR-143-3p and KAT6A in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The results show that high expression of KAT6A is associated with the viability and proliferation of AML cells, while overexpression of miR-143-3p can inhibit the viability and proliferation of AML cells. miR-143-3p inhibits proliferation and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma cells by regulating its target gene FGF1

Conventional peritoneal cytology lacks the prognostic significance of detecting local or peritoneal recurrence in colorectal cancer: An Egyptian experience

Mohamed Shalaby et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is a common and deadly disease, with a high mortality rate globally. The early detection of peritoneal metastasis remains a challenge, along with the decision-making regarding intraperitoneal chemotherapy. The presence of intraperitoneal free cancer cells (IPCCs) has been studied for its prognostic role in peritoneal recurrence and survival, but the results have been conflicting. In this study, the prevalence and impact of detecting free malignant cells in peritoneal fluid on survival and local recurrence were evaluated, with a focus on the incidence of peritoneal carcinomatosis during follow-up. The study showed that while IPCC detection was not an independent prognostic factor, it did have an impact on distant metastasis rates. The traditional cytology technique showed high specificity but lower sensitivity in detecting IPCCs.
