All-Optical Tuning of Indistinguishable Single Photons Generated in Three-Level Quantum Systems

Lukasz Dusanowski et al.

Summary: Resonance fluorescence of two-level quantum systems is a powerful tool in quantum information processing. This paper introduces an all-optical tuning functionality into a resonance fluorescence coherent driving scheme for higher-level systems. The proposed approach allows for fast optical control of the quantum emitter spectrum, paving the way for temporal and spectral shaping of single photons and generation of high-dimensional frequency-encoded quantum states of light.

Demonstration and modeling of time-bin entangled photons from a quantum dot in a nanowire

Philipp Aumann et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the preparation of time-bin entangled photon pairs by resonantly exciting the biexciton state in a quantum dot using coherent pulses. The implementation of this scheme in a dot embedded in an InP nanowire is analyzed using an effective three-level open system master equation. The resulting entanglement and optimal operating conditions are predicted based on parameters extracted from experimental data.

Using the Autler-Townes and ac Stark effects to optically tune the frequency of indistinguishable single photons from an on-demand source

Chris Gustin et al.

Summary: We describe the use of a coherent optical drive near resonance with the upper rungs of a three-level ladder system, combined with short-pulse excitation, to provide a frequency-tunable source of on-demand single photons. We identify two device operation regimes and show how negative effects can be mitigated by using an optical cavity to increase the collection rate of photons. We apply our theory to semiconductor quantum dots and find that high indistinguishabilities of over 90% are achievable.
