Addition of g-C3N4 to ZnO and ZnFe2O4 to improve photocatalytic degradation of emerging organic pollutants

Islanny Larissa Ouriques Brasileiro et al.

Summary: The use of heterogeneous photocatalytic processes can be enhanced by the incorporation of heterojunctions consisting of different semiconductors. The synthesis of ZnO/g-C3N4 and ZnFe2O4/g-C3N4 heterojunctions in different mass proportions of g-C3N4 was successfully achieved using a combination of mixture, sonication, and thermal treatment. The incorporation of g-C3N4 resulted in modifications in the textural and optical properties of the heterojunctions, leading to improved efficiency in photocatalytic degradation of cefazolin and reactive black 5. The 50-Zn/gCN heterojunction exhibited the highest efficiency and good photostability, making it a promising catalyst for the degradation of pharmaceutical products and dyes.

Summary: Acid leachate from steel sludge was used to prepare photo-catalytically active composites based on GO/ZnO-L and g-C3N4/ZnO-L. The composites exhibited higher photocatalytic efficiency in the degradation of azo dye compared to the model composites. This is attributed to the modified electronic structure and the emergence of new quantum levels caused by the presence of other metal oxides in ZnO-L, leading to a more efficient separation of photo-generated charge carriers.

Synthesis of novel ternary hybrid g-C3N4@Ag-ZnO nanocomposite with Z-scheme enhanced solar light-driven methylene blue degradation and antibacterial activities

Mudassar Sher et al.

Summary: The facile synthesis of ternary hybrid g-C3N4@Ag-ZnO nanocomposites showed excellent photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants and significant antibacterial performance against pathogenic bacterial species. The synthesized NCs exhibited tremendous stability and recyclability, with the superoxide and hydroxyl radicals playing a key role in the degradation process. The synergic effect developed between Ag-ZnO NPs and g-C3N4 NSs contributed to the superior photocatalytic activity and improved antibacterial performance of the ternary hybrid NCs.
