Preparation of Seaweed Nanopowder Particles Using Planetary Ball Milling and Their Effects on Some Secondary Metabolites in Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) Seedlings

Amal A. Mohamed et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles have become pioneering materials in agricultural research due to their unique physicochemical characteristics. This study prepared seaweed (Turbinaria triquetra) nanopowders using the planetary ball milling method and characterized them using various techniques. The nanopowders showed the presence of different functional groups and important compounds. A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of the seaweed nanopowders on date palm growth, and the results showed that foliar application of liquid NP at a certain dose enhanced growth parameters and photosynthetic pigments. This environmentally friendly and cost-effective material could be a nanofertilizer for sustainable agriculture.

Evaluating the in-vivo effects of olive oil, soya bean oil, and vitamins against oxidized ghee toxicity

Khushnuma Saleema et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the protective role of various lipids (olive and soya oil) and vitamin (E and C) against the toxicity of thermally oxidized ghee in rabbits. The results showed that vitamin E and C exhibited the best antioxidant activity and decreased cholesterol levels to normal. Histopathological examinations revealed liver damage caused by oxidized ghee. It was concluded that oxidized ghee was highly toxic and not safe for consumption, and soya bean oil and vitamin E were more effective in protecting against its toxicity than olive oil and vitamin C.

Estrogenic Modulation of Ionic Channels, Pumps and Exchangers in Airway Smooth Muscle

Bianca S. Romero-Martinez et al.

Summary: To maintain the balance of ions in the airway smooth muscle, numerous transporters regulate the movement of these ions. Estrogens play a significant role in the development, proliferation, migration, and survival of target cells. They can regulate calcium homeostasis and contraction and relaxation processes in the smooth muscle. This paper seeks to summarize the effects of estrogen on ionic handling proteins in the airway smooth muscle.

A Review on Traditional Anti-ulcer Medicinal Plants

Ambrish K. K. Singh et al.

Summary: Traditional remedies, including indigenous medicinal plants, provide cures for various illnesses with no side effects. Ulcer, a chronic ailment that affects a large population, has no absolute cure. Causes of ulcers include spicy meals, obesity, unplanned diet, excessive use of certain medicines, smoking, stress, irregular sleep, and alcohol consumption. Ayurvedic and traditional medicine practitioners use indigenous medicinal plants to treat ulcers and further investigation is needed to explore their potential anti-ulcer properties.

Enhancement of shelf-life of food items via immobilized enzyme nanoparticles on varied supports. A sustainable approach towards food safety and sustainability

Sumaira Shouket et al.

Summary: This study aimed to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables by using a novel technique involving glucose oxidase and hydrogen peroxide. The results showed that the activity of the enzyme was enhanced when ligated with nanoparticles (ZnO, Ag). Sprays containing the enzyme-nanoparticle conjugates were applied to guava fruit samples, and the results indicated that the spray with glucose oxidase/zinc oxide nanoparticles effectively maintained the physical appearance and chemical composition of the fruit, thus extending its post-harvest shelf life.
