A Low-Temperature Annealing Method for Alloy Nanostructures and Metasurfaces: Unlocking a Novel Degree of Freedom

Debdatta Ray et al.

Summary: A low-temperature alloying process has been developed to fabricate diverse Au-Ag nanostructures, allowing for tuning of optical response and control of spectral features such as Fano resonances. This technique provides a versatile and cost-effective way of creating complex nanostructures with arbitrary stoichiometry.

Au Polyhedron Array with Tunable Crystal Facets by PVP-Assisted Thermodynamic Control and Its Sharp Shape As Well As High-Energy Exposed Planes Co-Boosted SERS Activity

Xuejiao Li et al.

Summary: A route has been developed for directly growing 2D Au polyhedron arrays with controllable facets by using substrate-supported 2D Au quasi-spherical nanoparticle arrays as seed arrays. Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) is crucial in guiding the reduced Au atoms and stabilizing the Au seeds, while thermodynamic control allows PVP to direct the formation of {111} facets. The proposed fabrication approach enriches the structural diversity of Au nanoarrays and overcomes the limitations of traditional lithography.

Hybrid Magnetic-Plasmonic Nanoparticle Probes for Multimodal Bioimaging

Cristina de la Encarnacion et al.

Summary: Multimodal contrast agents have emerged as an interesting approach to overcome the technical limitations of individual imaging techniques. In this study, hybrid nanoparticles comprising an iron oxide core and a gold spiky layer were developed, providing magnetic and optical properties for MRI, SERS, and fluorescence imaging. The fabrication of these hybrid nanoprobes involved the adsorption of small gold nanoparticles onto iron oxide cores, followed by controlled growth of spiky gold shells. The performance of these hybrid multifunctional nanoparticles as multimodal contrast agents was demonstrated for correlative imaging of in vitro cell models and ex vivo tissues.

Atomic fast dynamic motion on the Cu nanoparticle's surface before melting: A molecular dynamics study

Zixian Song et al.

Summary: Cu nanoparticle solder shows great potential for ultra-fine pitch interconnection, with low-temperature sintering mechanism largely dependent on dynamic atomic motions on the surface. The unusual atomic fast dynamic motion observed at around 500-600 K is crucial for high diffusivity and plays a key role in low temperature sintering. The study provides a deep understanding of the atomic mechanism at the nanoparticle's surface under low temperature conditions.

The Size and Shape Effects on the Melting Point of Nanoparticles Based on the Lennard-Jones Potential Function

Anwar Al Rsheed et al.

Summary: A model based on the Lennard-Jones potential function is proposed to calculate the melting points of nanoparticles, considering the effects of size, shape, atomic volume, and surface packing. The model for spherical nanoparticles agrees with experimental values and can predict the melting points accurately. The non-integer L-J potential function can also be used to predict the melting points of nanoparticles.
