Adverse events following immunization of COVID-19 (Covaxin) vaccine at a tertiary care center of India

Swayam Pragyan Parida et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess adverse events following COVID-19 vaccine immunization and identify the predictors of these events. The study found that female sex, history of allergic reactions, presence of comorbidities, recent acute infection, and intake of chronic medications were major factors associated with adverse events. Precaution is needed when vaccinating individuals with these risk factors.

COVID-19 Vaccination in Autoimmune Diseases (COVAD) study: Vaccine safety in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies

Albert Gil-Vila et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adverse events related to COVID-19 vaccination in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) and other systemic autoimmune and inflammatory disorders (SAIDs) within 7 days postvaccination. The results showed higher rates of adverse events in IIM patients compared to healthy controls, particularly with regards to rashes. Overall, the benefit of preventing severe COVID-19 through vaccination likely outweighs the risk of vaccine-related adverse events.

COVAD survey 2 long-term outcomes: unmet need and protocol

Zoha Zahid Fazal et al.

Summary: Vaccine hesitancy is a major obstacle to achieving herd immunity against COVID-19. Equitable vaccine uptake is crucial for managing the pandemic. Despite the absence of live-attenuated vaccines, short-term adverse events have raised concerns about potential long-term effects. The COVAD-2 survey aims to collect patient-reported data on the long-term safety and tolerability of COVID-19 vaccines in immune modulation.

Summary: COVID-19-induced myositis can present in various forms, either due to direct virus invasion of muscle cells or induction of autoimmunity. The COVID-19 era has posed challenges for rheumatologists, disrupting chronic care for patients with established myositis and leading to the development of teleconsultation services.
