Superheated steam injection as primary measure to improve producer gas quality from biomass air gasification in an autothermal pilot-scale gasifier

D. T. Pio et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of steam injection during biomass gasification on producer gas composition and efficiency. For low-density biomass, steam injection increased H2 concentration and H2/CO ratio but lowered energy content and efficiency, potentially due to the water-gas shift reaction. For high-density biomass, steam injection improved producer gas energy content and efficiency by promoting char accumulation and char-steam reforming reactions.

Numerical Investigation on Cofiring Characteristics of Biomass Syngas and Coal in a 660-MW Tower Boiler

Lei Deng et al.

Summary: Cofiring biomass syngas with coal under the oxy-fuel condition is a promising technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The use of a refined weighted-sum-of-gray-gases model, HCN oxidation model, and NO-char reaction model accurately predicted cofiring characteristics. Syngas reburning and higher syngas calorific values contribute to lower NO emissions. The injection position of syngas also has a significant impact on cofiring characteristics and NO emissions.

Experimental study on transformation of alkali and alkaline earth metals during biomass gasification

Lei Deng et al.

Summary: A fixed-bed reactor was used to simulate CO2 gasification and examine the transformation of alkali and alkaline earth metals (AAEMs) in biomass. The study found that the release of AAEMs followed a specific sequence and the alkali metals mainly appeared as water-soluble inorganic salts. Higher temperatures led to the formation of compounds with other elements. Larger particle sizes were beneficial for the transformation of potassium from water-soluble to organic forms, particularly in candlenut wood.
