Enhanced UV photo-detection properties of graphene oxide incorporated transparent TiO2 thin films in Schottky configuration

M. Chakraborty et al.

Summary: By varying the graphene oxide (GO) content, the modification of UV photo-response characteristics in transparent titanium dioxide-graphene oxide (TiO2-GO) nanocomposite thin films was studied. The presence of GO improves the optical band gap of TiO2 without affecting its transparency. The fabricated metal-semiconductor (MS) Schottky junctions with TiO2-GO nanocomposite thin films show rectifying behavior and improved UV response characteristics.

Nanoflower-like CdS and SnS2 loaded TiO2 nanotube arrays for photocatalytic wastewater treatment and hydrogen production

Shuxu Zhu et al.

Summary: Nanoflower-like CdS/SnS2/TiO2 NTs ternary heterojunction photocatalysts were synthesized by hydrothermal method, and the relationship between morphology, microscopic morphology, crystallinity, elemental presence state and hydrogen production performance was investigated. The photocatalytic performance, electrochemical property and hydrogen production capacity were compared with other NTs. The results showed high removal efficiency for MB wastewater and good photocatalytic efficiencies for RhB and Cr(VI) removal. The ESR technique confirmed the active radical groups and investigated the photocatalytic mechanism. Hydrogen production rate achieved 97.14 μmol h(-1) cm(-2), demonstrating a new technique for solar energy conversion.

Efficient Removal of Cr(VI) by TiO2 Based Micro-Nano Reactor via the Synergy of Adsorption and Photocatalysis

Yu Song et al.

Summary: The low-toxicity treatment of chromium-containing wastewater is an important solution to environmental problems. A core-shell structural ZIF-8@TiO2 photocatalyst was synthesized and showed improved photocatalytic activity compared to TiO2. The optimized ZIF-8@TiO2 composite exhibited the highest removal efficiency of Cr(VI) with 93.1% after 120 min of UV-vis irradiation. The superior removal efficiency is attributed to the high adsorption of ZIF-8 and the high separation efficiency of photo-induced electron-hole pairs.

One-pot synthesis of C-modified and N-doped TiO2 for enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity

Guopeng Zhu et al.

Summary: A brand-new catalyst of C-modified and N-doped TiO2 (T3FN1) was synthesized via the hydro-thermal method using Tetrabutyl titanate (TBOT) and feathers of chicken as the precursor. The catalyst exhibited a unique three-dimensional folded rod-shaped micron structure, thanks to the abundant distribution of TiO2 nanoparticles (anatase phase) around the outer surface of the feathers template. Under visible light illumination for 30 minutes, the degradation rate of TCH reached 89.8% with T3FN1, which was 1.52 times and 2.62 times higher than that of TiO2 without template (T-3) and P25, respectively. Mechanism studies revealed that the chicken feathers served as natural organic templates to enhance the dispersity of TiO2 and nitrogen in feathers was directly doped into TiO2 to improve the catalysts' response to visible light. Furthermore, the carbon in the chicken feathers acted as a transmission medium for electric charges, promoting the spatial separation of photo-induced carriers. Moreover, T3FN1 showed wide adaptability and stability within a pH range, with the degradation rate of TCH still reaching 83.15% after 5 cycles. Overall, due to its unique structure and photocatalytic performance, the catalyst holds great potential for practical wastewater treatment.

A review on optical bandgap engineering in TiO2 nanostructures via doping and intrinsic vacancy modulation towards visible light applications

Radhika Nair et al.

Summary: The engineering of the bandgap in semiconductor nanostructures from ultraviolet to visible is highly significant in various applications. Techniques such as doping, co-doping, and intrinsic vacancy modulation have been found to effectively narrow the bandgap. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a well-studied material for UV photocatalysis, and its bandgap can be controlled through the modulation of intrinsic vacancies. Doping and co-doping with metals and non-metals, as well as other techniques, have been found to narrow the bandgap of TiO2. This review focuses on the intrinsic vacancy-modulated bandgap narrowing in TiO2 and covers recent advancements in this field.

Hexavalent Chromium Removal via Photoreduction by Sunlight on Titanium-Dioxide Nanotubes Formed by Anodization with a Fluorinated Glycerol-Water Electrolyte

Siti Azlina Rosli et al.

Summary: The effect of fluoride ion concentration, time, and applied voltage on the morphologies and dimensions of TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) formed by anodic oxidation was investigated. Increasing fluoride ion concentration resulted in increased surface etching and clear pore structure in the nanotubes. TNT diameter was voltage dependent, increasing from approximately 30 nm at 10V to 310 nm at 60V, with the structure being destroyed at 80V.

TiO2 nanotubes for dye-sensitized solar cells-A review

Xuelan Hou et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the fabrication methods of TiO2 nanotube (TNT) photoelectrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), as well as modifications to improve efficiency and stability. The active area of the DSSC is strongly linked to power conversion efficiency (PCE), making it crucial to evaluate and compare cell efficiencies with the same active area. Future goals include reducing material and manufacturing costs of TNT-based DSSCs.
