Specific colorimetric detection of methylmercury based on peroxidase-like activity regulation of carbon dots/Au NPs nanozyme

Qiulan Li et al.

Summary: A novel colorimetric nanoprobe for the rapid and specific detection of methylmercury is proposed based on the selective enhancement of nanozyme activity. The formation of gold amalgamation between nanozyme and methylmercury allows for the accelerated generation of radicals and peroxidase-like activity. This method provides a new perspective for the analysis of organometallic compounds.

Molecular testing devices for on-site detection of E. coli in water samples

Carlos Manzanas et al.

Summary: This study developed an innovative platform for on-site monitoring of water quality by detecting Escherichia coli (E. coli) using paper-based sample preparation and nucleic acid isothermal amplification. The platform utilizes ball-based valves for fluid control to carry out bacterial lysis and DNA enrichment on a paper pad, followed by loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and colorimetric detection in a battery-operated coffee mug. The platform was successfully used to detect E. coli in environmental water samples with a limit of quantitation of 0.2 CFU/mL and 3 copies per reaction. It was also validated for detecting different strains of E. coli and for water samples with varying salt concentrations.

Fluorescent Aptasensor for Determination of 8-Oxo-2?- deoxyguanosine in Urine Using Carbon Dots and Amine- Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles

Sawinee Ngernpimai et al.

Summary: In this study, a highly sensitive fluorescent aptasensor was developed for detecting 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-oxo-dG) in urine. The aptasensor used aptamer-mediated quenching of amino-terminated oligo(ethylene glycol)-capped gold nanoparticles (NH2-TEG-AuNPs) towards green emissive carbon dots (G-CDs) as the detection mechanism. The system demonstrated high selectivity and sensitivity over a broad concentration range, and has the potential to be developed as a new platform for rapid screening of 8-oxo-dG.
