Pedestrian dynamics of single-file experiments with music considering different music and different instructions

Guang Zeng et al.

Summary: This study explored the influence of music on pedestrian flow and movement through a series of experiments. The results showed that both the type of music and the instruction method can affect the walking speed of pedestrians. Motivational music led to faster walking, while nonmotivational music slowed down pedestrians at low density and sped them up at high density. Additionally, the study found that music can improve pedestrian flow. This research is important for understanding the impact of music on pedestrian dynamics.

Music influences vividness and content of imagined journeys in a directed visual imagery task

Steffen A. Herff et al.

Summary: This study draws from the observation that music can influence the imagined content during non-directed mind-wandering, as well as the finding that relative orientation within time and space is retained in imagination. It reveals strong evidence that music can influence the vividness, sentiment, imagined time passed, and distances traveled in directed imagination tasks, with aspects of these effects being modeled through features such as tempo. The results highlight music's potential to support therapies such as Exposure Therapy and Imagery Rescripting, which deploy directed imagination as a clinical tool.
