Hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of the Al-Cu-Li alloy: A study with processing map

Jiaguo Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, isothermal compression tests were conducted on the 2195 Al-Cu-Li alloy to investigate its hot deformation behavior. A processing map was established to predict the workability under different conditions, and the corresponding microstructures were analyzed to reveal the deformation mechanisms. The results indicate that the optimal hot-working conditions for the alloy are at temperatures of 460-500 degrees C and strain rates of 10-3-10-2 s-1, with dominant mechanisms of dynamic recrystallization and dynamic recovery.

Research on hot deformation behavior and constitutive model to predict flow stress of an annealed FeCrCuNi2Mn2 high-entropy alloy

Seyyed Ali Sajadi et al.

Summary: In this study, the hot deformation and dynamic recrystallization behaviors of an annealed FeCrCuNi2Mn2 high-entropy alloy were investigated. The flow curves were evaluated and constitutive equations were established for the calculation of material constants and modeling of flow stress behavior. The results showed that the increase in deformation temperature and decrease in strain rate led to a decrease in dynamic recrystallization parameters, followed by an increase in recrystallized volume fraction and grain growth, resulting in a decrease in alloy hardness. The activation energy of hot deformation was determined to be 437 kJ/mol and a power equation was established between critical stress and strain and the Zener-Hollomon parameter.

Cryogenic tensile behavior of laser additive manufactured CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys

Eun Seong Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, the microstructural evolution, tensile properties, and deformation behavior of additively manufactured equiatomic CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy (HEA) were investigated at a cryogenic temperature of 77 K. The results showed that the HEA processed by direct energy deposition (DED) exhibited excellent strength and ductility at 77 K, with exceptional strain hardening, compared to the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and wrought samples. The formation of deformation twinning in addition to dislocation slip was observed as the deformation mechanism at 77 K.

Designing CoCrFeNi-M (M = Nb, Ta, Zr, and Hf) eutectic high-entropy alloys via a modified simple mixture method

Wenna Jiao et al.

Summary: Recently, a modified simple mixture method was proposed to design eutectic high-entropy alloys (EHEAs) containing more than five elements. Four novel six-element and seven-element EHEAs were designed and prepared, demonstrating the validity and accuracy of this method. The two seven-element EHEAs exhibited peak strengths of 592 and 660 MPa at 1073 K, surpassing most reported EHEAs and even some refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs). This study provides a significant paradigm for designing EHEAs with more than five elements.

Study on the microstructure evolution and dynamic recrystallization mechanism of selective laser melted Inconel 718 alloy during hot deformation

Wei Le et al.

Summary: In this study, the hot deformation behavior, microstructure evolution, and dynamic recrystallization (DRX) behavior of selective laser melted (SLM) 718 alloy were investigated using isothermal compression testing, electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD) technology, and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results reveal that the deformation condition has a significant impact on the flow behavior and DRX grain of the alloy. Increasing the deformation temperature or decreasing the strain rate leads to an increase in the volume fraction and average size of DRX grains. The DRX mechanism of SLM 718 alloy involves discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX) characterized by initial grain boundary and regenerated grain boundary bulging, and continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) occurring inside the grain characterized by progressive subgrain rotation and homogeneous misorientation increase.

Effect of microstructural evolution on corrosion behavior of Al0.7Cr2FeCoNi high-entropy alloy

Xiaolei Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of microstructural evolution on the corrosion behavior of a B2 nanoprecipitation-strengthened BCC-based Al0.7Cr2FeCoNi high-entropy alloy in a 3.5 mass% NaCl solution was investigated. The results showed that the alloy exhibited good corrosion resistance and formed Cr-rich surface films. However, heat treatment at higher temperatures led to a decrease in corrosion resistance due to the increased potential difference between the B2 and σ phases and the coarsening of the Cr-depleted B2 particles. Therefore, to obtain corrosion-resistant high-entropy alloys, the coarsening of B2 particles and precipitation of σ phase should be suppressed.

Huiwei Li et al.

Summary: The thermal deformation behavior and flow stress modeling of a novel CoNi-based wrought superalloy were investigated at different temperatures and strain rates, showing dynamic recrystallization occurring under all deformation conditions. Additionally, when the alloy was deformed sub-solvusly at higher temperatures and lower strain rates, the gamma' phase dissolved resulting in substantial grain growth.

Atomistic understanding of incipient plasticity in BCC refractory high entropy alloys

Xiaorong Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the initial dislocation nucleation and motion mechanisms in TaTiZrV high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) and their dependence on temperature through molecular dynamics simulations. The short-range orders in the RHEA facilitate preferential inhomogeneous nucleation at low stress, while compositional fluctuation affects the slipping and moving rate of dislocations. Moreover, the difficulty of initial dislocation nucleation increases with temperature.

Effect of hot isostatic pressing on the cryogenic mechanical properties of CrCoNi medium entropy alloy processed by direct energy deposition

Minh Tien Tran et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) on the cryogenic mechanical properties of CrCoNi medium entropy alloy (MEA) fabricated by direct energy deposition (DED) was investigated. The HIP treated CrCoNi MEA-DED showed decreased strength, but an excellent combination of high strength and preserved elongation to fracture at 77 K. The mechanical properties at cryogenic temperature of the HIP treated CrCoNi MEA-DED were significantly better compared to other CrCoNi MEAs prepared by different processes.
