Easy and Fast Production of Solketal from Glycerol Acetalization via Heteropolyacids

Diana Juliao et al.

Summary: This work presents an efficient and fast method for valorizing glycerol, the main waste from the biodiesel industry. The acetalization of glycerol with acetone is an effective strategy to produce solketal, a valuable fuel additive component. The catalytic efficiency of different commercial heteropolyacids (HPAs) was compared and it was found that HPAs demonstrated high efficiency and selectivity under sustainable conditions.

Synthesis of silicate and alumina pillared MWW zeolite as ethane dehydroaromatization catalyst

Chaoyin Wang et al.

Summary: The use of polymeric hydroxyl-aluminum Keggin-Al13 cations and tetraethylorthosilicate as pillaring agents altered the interlayer structure of MWW zeolites, affecting their acidity and resulting in the formation of the composite MCM-36. Introduction of silica and alumina pillars led to changes in acidity, reducing overall acidity and increasing weak and Lewis acid sites in pillared MWW zeolites.

Polyionic liquid decorated chitosan beads as versatile metal-free catalysts for catalyzing chemical reactions in aqueous media

Fatemeh Koohestani et al.

Summary: A new strategy is proposed to enhance the catalytic activity of cross-linked chitosan beads by functionalizing them with vinyl and polymerizing them with 1-vinyl-3-butylimidazolium bromide to create a polyionic liquid on the beads. The resulting composite serves as a metal-free catalyst for various organic transformations with high efficiency and recyclability. Comparative studies show that the activity of this composite is superior to that of cross-linked bead and polyionic liquid.

Enhanced removal efficiency of NaY zeolite toward phenol from aqueous solution by modification with nickel (Ni-NaY)

B. Ba Mohammed et al.

Summary: Novel NaY and Ni modified NaY (Ni-NaY) zeolites were synthesized for efficient removal of phenol from aqueous solution. Characterization results showed Ni-NaY had higher surface area and pore volume compared to NaY. A comparative study indicated Ni-NaY exhibited higher phenol adsorption capacity than NaY.

Bio-removal of phenol by the immobilized laccase on the fabricated parent and hierarchical NaY and ZSM-5 zeolites

Atefeh Ameri et al.

Summary: This study synthesized NaY and ZSM-5 zeolites and their hierarchical forms, which exhibited increased pore size and mesoporous pore volume. Immobilized laccases showed enhanced thermal and pH stability, with over 50% activity retained after storage. The hierarchical forms of immobilized laccases demonstrated higher efficiency in phenol removal and exhibited good reusability after multiple cycles.

Bio-oils/FCC co-processing: Insights into the adsorption of guaiacol on Y zeolites with distinct acidity and textural properties

J. M. Silva et al.

Summary: This study investigated the guaiacol adsorption capacity of different Y zeolites with various physicochemical properties. The results showed that the number of acid sites in the zeolites was positively correlated with the adsorption of guaiacol. Additionally, mesoporous structures were found to increase the diffusion rate of guaiacol inside the zeolite, leading to higher adsorption capacity.
