Photoredox Cyclization of N-Arylacrylamides for Synthesis of Dihydroquinolinones

Zhaosheng Liu et al.

Summary: A metal- and additive-free photoredox cyclization of N-arylacrylamides for the concise formation of dihydroquinolinones was reported, using sustainable visible light and the organic light-emitting molecule 4CzIPN as the efficient photocatalyst. The reaction system showed exclusive 6-endo-trig cyclization selectivity with generally good yields of functionalized dihydroquinolinones and dihydrobenzoquinolinones, with mechanistical studies supporting the feasibility of 1,3-H shift and intersystem crossing of the diradical intermediate.

Regioselective peri-C-H selenylation of aromatic compounds with weakly coordinating ketone groups

Bingbing Duan et al.

Summary: A novel and versatile method for peri-C-H selenylation of aromatic compounds bearing ketone groups has been developed using diselenides under Ru(II) catalysis. The reaction shows good regioselectivity and high yields with various chromones and diselenides. It is an important transformation that is easy to scale up and allows late-stage selenylation of bioactive compounds.

Ni and Fe catalyzed cascade radical reactions of oxime esters with diselenides

Linpeng Liu et al.

Summary: A method for radical cyclization and ring-opening of oxime esters with diselenides has been developed. Both Ni(0) and Fe(ii) catalysts can be used for the selenylation of olefin-containing and cyclic oxime ester derivatives. Using this method, a variety of functionalized pyrrolines and alkyl nitriles can be synthesized in good yields. Additionally, a mechanism involving iminyl radical and carbon-centered radical intermediates has been proposed.
