ZrO2 Matrix Toughened Ceramic Material-Strength and Toughness

Bin Qi et al.

Summary: ZrO2 ceramic has great potential for development due to its high hardness, good thermochemical stability, desirable biocompatibility, and unique stress-activated tetragonal to monoclinic transformation toughening. However, its brittleness limits its applications. Efforts have been made worldwide to improve the toughness of ZrO2 ceramic materials. This review discusses the effects of phase composition, stabilizer, grain size, and sintering method on the fracture toughness of ZrO2 ceramic. The mechanisms of phase transformation toughening, dopant toughening, and lamellar ceramic toughening are summarized, as well as the applications of toughened ZrO2-based materials in structural ceramics, coatings, and biomaterials.

Study on microstructure and properties of laser dissimilar welded joints of ultra-high strength PHS1500/PHS2000 steel

Zhenghui Zhang et al.

Summary: By comparing and analyzing, it was found that laser oscillation welding can achieve high-quality dissimilar weld joints and effectively inhibit the formation of specific ferrite. Full martensite can be formed in the weld seam with laser oscillation welding. In terms of hardness, the CGHAZ and FGHAZ on the PHS2000 side had higher values. The tensile strength of both welded joints was similar, with fractures occurring mostly in specific zones on the PHS1500 side.

Low-temperature diffusion bonding of Ti3Si(Al)C2 ceramic with Au interlayer

Zhang Bo et al.

Summary: A reliable diffusion bonding of Ti3Si(Al)C-2 ceramic is achieved by using Au foil as an interlayer at a lower temperature and shorter time. This method significantly decreases the bonding temperature by about 150 degrees Celsius compared to the lowest temperature reported in current research, and achieves a higher shear strength at 650 degrees Celsius.
