A peirosaurid mandible from the Albian-Cenomanian (Lower Cretaceous) of Algeria and the taxonomic content of Hamadasuchus (Crocodylomorpha, Peirosauridae)

Yohan Pochat-Cottilloux et al.

Summary: A new mandibular fossil assignable to Hamadasuchus cf. rebouli from Algeria is described in this study, which is an extinct terrestrial crocodylomorph from the Cretaceous of Africa and South America. The study shows that mandibular characters commonly used to differentiate between closely related crocodylomorph taxa actually record intra-specific or ontogenetic variability. Reliable mandibular characters enable us to propose a reduction in the taxonomic content of Hamadasuchus rebouli, and highlight the importance of mandibular characters in phylogenies.

A second peirosaurid crocodyliform from the Mid-Cretaceous Kem Kem Group of Morocco and the diversity of Gondwanan notosuchians outside South America

Cecily S. C. Nicholl et al.

Summary: Notosuchians are an extinct clade of terrestrial crocodyliforms mainly found in the late Cretaceous of Gondwana. The discovery of at least a fourth notosuchian species, Antaeusuchus taouzensis, in the Kem Kem Group of Morocco highlights the diversity of this group in the region. Phylogenetic analyses reveal the relationships between Antaeusuchus and other notosuchians, supporting its classification within the peirosaurid group.

3D skull modelling and description of a new baurusuchid (Crocodyliformes, Mesoeucrocodylia) from the Late Cretaceous (Bauru Basin) of Brazil

Gustavo Darlim et al.

Summary: Baurusuchidae is a diverse group of South American notosuchians, known for their reduced tooth formula, compressed rostrum, and verticalized quadrate. A new baurusuchid species with distinct features has been described, highlighting its phylogenetic position within the group as sister to other baurusuchines. The study helps to distinguish between Baurusuchinae and Pissarrachampsinae lineages, suggesting variability in the radiation of Baurusuchidae.

A new species of Caipirasuchus (Notosuchia, Sphagesauridae) from the Late Cretaceous of Brazil and the evolutionary history of Sphagesauria

Juan V. Ruiz et al.

Summary: A new species of sphagesaurid named Caipirasuchus with specialized jaws and dentition was described from the Late Cretaceous of Brazil. Phylogenetic analysis revealed the advanced notosuchians forming a clade named Sphagesauria, with two more inclusive clades Xenodontosuchia and Eunotosuchia encompassing various Mesozoic notosuchians.

Summary: This study reports a new crocodyliform species, Coronelsuchus civali, from the Bauru Group in Brazil, expanding the understanding of the phylogeny and stratigraphic range of Sphagesauria. The discovery suggests an earlier appearance and diversification of Sphagesauria in the region.
