Jingsuiite, TiB2, a new mineral from the Cr-11 podiform chromitite orebody, Luobusa ophiolite, Tibet, China: Implications for recycling of boron

Summary: The discovery of the new mineral jingsuiite (TiB2) and other three inclusions in the podiform chromitite orebody in Tibet, China is reported. The phases and structures of these minerals were studied using various techniques. The presence of jingsuiite suggests the incorporation of crustal sediments in the ophiolite and subsequent crystallization during deep subduction and exhumation.

Low-Dose Electron Crystallography: Structure Solution and Refinement

Summary: Sedovite is identified as one of the earliest supergene minerals formed in the secondary zone, with a microporous structure built from uranium polyhedra and disordered molybdenum pyramids hosting water molecules. Density functional theory computations confirm its chemical formula as U4+(Mo6+O4)(2)·nH2O and predict that sedovite is a ferromagnetic insulator with dominant properties from U4+ ions rather than Mo6+. The crystal structure complexity of sedovite provides indirect information about its formation conditions.
