Experimental investigation into the effect of process parameters on the Inconel 718 surface integrity for abrasive waterjet peening

Zhao Wang et al.

Summary: The influence of different AWJP parameters on the surface integrity of Inconel 718 alloy was investigated. The results showed that pump pressure and standoff distance had the greatest impact on surface integrity, while flowrate and traverse speed had a smaller effect. The AWJP-treated workpiece formed a footprint width of 3.0-4.3 mm, with the maximum surface roughness occurring at a pump pressure of 300 MPa. The thickness of the stress layer was approximately 100-180 μm, and the maximum compressive residual stress was larger than 1100 MPa. Pump pressure had a significant effect on microhardness, and the maximum hardness increased by more than 20%.

A new method for polishing the inner wall of a circular tube with a soft abrasive rotating jet

Jun Zhao et al.

Summary: The traditional polishing method for the inner wall of a tube has limitations in tool size and geometric constraints. This paper proposes a new method called soft abrasive rotating jet polishing (SARJP) to overcome these limitations and optimize the polishing process. By combining the Taguchi method and response surface technique, the speed and quality of the optimization process were improved. Mathematical statistics and graph tools were used to assess the influence of various factors on the roughness of the inner wall of the tube.

Multiphase Flow Field Analysis and Experimental Study of Pulsating Air Jet Polishing

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: In this article, a new method of pulsating air jet polishing (PAJP) is proposed to address the shortcomings of existing fluid polishing methods. The effects of various parameters on the removal depth and surface roughness of titanium alloys are analyzed through a combination of numerical simulation and experimental studies, leading to the optimization of the PAJP process parameters.

Removal mechanism of submerged air jet polishing considering the state of abrasive particles

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel polishing method called submerged air jet polishing (SAJP). The microscopic theoretical model of SAJP is established based on the micro-cutting model of the single abrasive particle. The erosion removal mechanism of SAJP processing titanium alloy and the material removal mechanism under different process parameters are studied from a microscopic perspective.

Influence of submerged micro-abrasive waterjet peening on surface integrity and fatigue performance of TA19 titanium alloy

Shu-Lei Yao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of submerged micro-abrasive waterjet peening (SMA-WJP) on the surface integrity and fatigue properties of TA19 titanium alloy. The results show that SMA-WJP treatment forms a plastic deformation layer and compressive residual stress layer, improving the surface integrity and fatigue life. Additionally, nanocrystals and high density of dislocations are formed on the surface of the SMA-WJP treated specimen.
