Nickel alginate-enhanced fire safety of aluminum diethylphosphinate on epoxy resin

Summary: To enhance fire safety, aluminum diethylphosphonate (AlPi) and nickel alginate were incorporated into epoxy resins (EP) in different proportions. The synergistic flame retardant effects of AlPi and nickel alginate on fire safety and mechanical properties of EP were investigated. The addition of 9.5% AlPi and 0.5% nickel alginate resulted in EP/AlPi(9.5)-Nickel Alginate(0.5) achieving a UL-94 V-0 rating with the highest limiting oxygen index value (28.9%) and improved thermal stability and char-forming ability.

Flame retardant cotton fabrics with anti-UV properties based on tea polyphenol-melamine-phenylphosphonic acid

Summary: A novel, high-efficiency, phosphorus-nitrogen flame retardant named TP-MA-PPOA based on tea polyphenol-melamine-phenylphosphonic acid was successfully prepared for cotton fabrics, providing flame retardancy and anti-UV properties. The TP-MA-PPOA coating enables the cotton fabrics to self-extinguish and increases the limiting oxygen index. It also significantly reduces the peak heat release rate and fire growth rate, lowers the risk of fire, and has a high ultraviolet protection factor value.

Imparting cotton textiles glow-in-the-dark property along with other functional properties: photochromism, flame-retardant, water-repellency, and antimicrobial activity

Summary: Screen-printing and spray-coating methods were used to produce photoluminescent, water-repellent, and antimicrobial films on textile fibers. The phosphor nanoparticles had sizes ranging from 2 to 12 nm. The phosphor-coated textiles displayed green emission in the presence of UV light, and the coated fabrics retained their flame-retardant properties over 24 laundry cycles.

Synthesis and application of a novel high durable cotton flame retardant rich in P-N covalent bonds and ammonium phosphate groups

Summary: A novel high molecule and formaldehyde-free reactive flame retardant, ammonium salt of poly-ethyleneimine phosphamide phosphoric acid (APEIAPAP), was synthesized for cotton fabrics. The APEIAPAP reagent was grafted on cellulose through P(--O)-O-C covalent bond and showed excellent flame retardancy. The treated cotton samples exhibited outstanding flame retardancy and maintained high LOI even after multiple washes.

Eco-friendly Modal/alginate knitted fabrics with intrinsic flame retardancy and wearability

Summary: Flame-retardant Modal fabrics were prepared by blending Modal fibers with calcium alginate fibers, which have intrinsic flame retardancy, and the preparation process of flame-retardant samples is diametrically eco-friendly. The char-forming ability of Modal/alginate samples was given greater value in a higher temperature range without changing the degradation process of Modal fibers. Modal/alginate samples reduced the release of flammable volatiles and showed improvements in both flame retardancy and retention of wearability.

Soluble and colorless polyimide coated cotton fabric with attractive multifunction: Warmth retention, breathable, antifouling, UV and acid resistance

Summary: Coating is an economical and convenient way to make textiles multi-functional and expand their applications in various fields. Polyimide (PI) is an excellent functional coating material with thermal insulation, ultraviolet resistance, and chemical resistance. In this study, a soluble and colorless PI was successfully developed to coat onto cotton fabric in one step, avoiding the disruption of the fabric's mechanical and color properties. The coated fabric showed improved thermal resistance, water and stain resistance, UV resistance, and acid resistance, making it a promising method for preparing multifunctional fabric.

A facile strategy to achieve efficient flame-retardant cotton fabric with durable and restorable fire resistance

Incorporation of phosphate and melamine facilitated the conversion of cellulose fibers to protective carbon layers, preventing decomposition into flammable gases.

Properties of flame-retardant cotton fabrics: Combustion behavior, thermal stability and mechanism of Si/P/N synergistic effect

Summary: A novel silicon, phosphorus and nitrogen synergistic flame retardant, EPSO-P, was synthesized and shown to improve the flame retardancy and thermal stability of cotton fabrics. The char residue of treated samples increased to 43% at 700 degrees C, while heat release rate and total heat release were significantly reduced after flame retardant treatment. EPSO-P was found to prevent the fabrics from burning in both gas phase and condensed phase, indicating it as a promising candidate for producing flame retardant cotton fabrics with favorable properties.

Investigation of phosphate removal mechanisms by a lanthanum hydroxide adsorbent using p-XRD, FTIR and XPS

Summary: Macroscopic batch experiments and microscopic spectroscopic characterization were employed to study the phosphate adsorption process onto lanthanum hydroxide adsorbent. The results showed that the relatively low La release after phosphate adsorption suggested the formation of surface co-precipitation of lanthanum phosphate. The maximum adsorption capacities and surface configurations of lanthanum hydroxide varied at different pH values during the adsorption of phosphate.
