Low-cost SERS substrate featuring laser-ablated amorphous nanostructure

Indre Aleknavicene et al.

Summary: Using ultrashort-pulse laser-induced plasma-assisted ablation on soda-lime glass, researchers developed SERS substrates with amorphous nanostructures and a silver layer, resulting in homogeneous SERS activity with consistent surface activity. The relatively modest enhancement factor was attributed to the amorphous features on the glass, which led to fewer hot spots but increased surface homogeneity. The use of soda-lime glass offers a cheaper and scalable alternative for routine SERS testing in various scientific fields.

Magneto-plasmonic nanostructures for SERS: magnetite decorated by silver and gold nanoparticles

Gytaute Sirgedaite et al.

Summary: Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is enhanced by the introduction of magnetic nanoparticles and plasmonic silver or gold nanoparticles. In this work, modification of magnetite with different chemicals and subsequent decoration with PEI were performed to improve the attachment of plasmonic nanoparticles. The order of decoration was found to affect the signal enhancement, and composites with silver, gold, and magnetite nanoparticles were obtained.

Thermally Stable Magneto-Plasmonic Nanoparticles for SERS with Tunable Plasmon Resonance

Lina Mikoliunaite et al.

Summary: In this study, composite magneto-plasmonic nanoparticles (Fe3O4@AgNPs) were successfully synthesized and showed superior performance in terms of signal intensity and reproducibility in SERS measurements. The average density of silver nanoparticles and the plasmonic resonance frequency of Fe3O4@AgNPs could be controlled by adjusting the initial volumes of colloid solutions.

Mechanism of Gold-Silver Alloy Nanoparticle Formation by Laser Coreduction of Gold and Silver Ions in Solution

Christopher M. Nguyen et al.

Summary: The photochemical reduction of aqueous Ag+ and [AuCl4](-) into alloy Au-Ag nanoparticles with laser pulses is a green synthesis approach. By using femtosecond laser reduction and adding the OH center dot scavenger IPA, controlled compositions of Au-Ag NPs with homogeneous molar ratios of Au and Ag can be achieved. Understanding the kinetics of [AuCl4](-) coreduction provides insights into the mechanism of Au-Ag NP formation.

A hybrid dewetting approach to generate highly sensitive plasmonic silver nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution

Harim Oh et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that combining thermal and laser dewetting processes can generate more uniform metal nanoparticles, with pre-annealing leading to narrower size distribution. The obtained silver nanoparticles exhibit a strong single plasmonic resonance peak due to their narrow size distribution, showing enhanced refractive index sensitivity and figure of merit as a plasmonic sensing platform compared to particles produced via laser dewetting.

Summary: The study found that under low energy accumulation, AgCu films formed nanoparticles with different shapes and compositions, resulting in different absorption spectra. However, under high energy accumulation, the nanoparticles had consistent compositions, regular sizes, and absorption wavelengths closer to each other.
